New to the forum having owned my PFL RS3 coming up almost 2 months. Always needed another 5 pot in my life after my MK2 Focus RS!

I’m looking to lower the car sometime in the near future, leaning towards a set of Eibach springs, probably the Pros as potentially going to run a maxton splitter but still want to retain a little practicability, so the sport lines may be a tad too low. On that note if anyone has any photos of a PFL on Eibach pros with a maxton splitter please share! :)

Does anyone know any reputable companies within the North East or a little further who can recalibrate the Magride once they’re fitted? How long do people usually let their springs settle before recalibrating?

Thanks!

I'm NE based too. I'm sure I've seen BTG performance recalibrate and lower a car on mag ride on their insta, could be wrong though. Jm imports get lots of RS3s in too, they're bound to be able to do it.

give Alex a phone and he will sort you out

I know the guys at BTG I’ll most likely get them to fit the springs and align it, I’ll see if they can recal the mag ride while there I’ll drop Scott a message and ask about it.

Thanks Alix appreciate it. When I get round to getting some bought + fitted I’ll give you a call if no one a little more local can recal it. we’ll get something sorted buddy.

Any feedback on this? I've got my PFL in a week on Wednesday for eibach pros and recalibration. Did everything go okay?

Any update on this from anyone. Getting close to pulling the trigger on some eibachs. Had a few places tell me there's no recal needed. I have a place close to me who are a German specialist but haven't done much work on RS3s, said they couple do it but weren't sure if it was required so would have to do some digging.

If you can travel I can assist.
Uppermill / saddleworth area though.

Very much appreciate the offer but a bit too far for me.

On another note...my bonus lands on Tuesday. My impatience has got my researching the DS1 today. Might have some questions!

I'm 99% sure that BTG said they did the recalibration on mine, but I want to confirm with them anyway at some point. I got the Pro done and Chris got the sport line done

Yeah me too, the change to handling is so much better!

I'll let you know if I manage to get a hold of them. They've been pretty pants with picking up the phone recently. As I say I'm 99.9% sure they said they needed extra time as they recalibrate the mag ride. If it helps Im pretty sure I got charged 3.5 hours labour if anyone else knows whether that's about right?

How much did they charge if you don't mind me asking, supply and fit I assume? Was it a 10mm drop?

Probably a bit more than 10mm by the time they've settled, I haven't measured but I'd guess maybe 20mm over all. It's dropped a lot more than I expected. I mean that's just an eye ball so by no means accurate.

I think the springs were charged at £195 (they price matched rival motorsport) and I think it was 250 ish for fitting. I can't remember exactly but I think that's ballpark.

Good price, cheapest I'd seen before that was £216!

Got a quote from BTG today. Agreed to price match and quoted me £313.20 (very specific) for fitting, 4.35 hours to fit.

I'd had another quote from a local German specialist who said £300, 5 hours so seems about right.

I had a quote from BTG for the same price. Do not pay that! I got Performance Centre Sunderland to supply/fit my springs and if they supply them they fit them in around 3 hours for £60 an hour labour. How BTG quote 4.35 hours to fit is absolutely shocking. Actually took about 2.5 hours and they an recalibrate your mag ride too. Only thing they can’t do is alignment. Got a quote from BTG for alignment it was £72 which isn’t bad for Hunter alignment tbh. But do not pay £313 for springs fitted it’s daylight robbery!

Pleased I've posted in here! Tbf the German specialist near me said their system says 5 hours so quoted £300 but said it could well take less time so would only charge for how long it took obviously.

When I first asked about Revo stage 1 a few months back they did quote me £72 to fit a panel filter

Also, Pros quote 10mm drop all round, id say If you got a set of springs on higher end of QC limit you might see up to a 15mm drop very unlikely to see 20mm though. Sportlines drop 25mm front/15mm rear. I’m really happy with my drop, if you wanted to see the drop in person I’m happy to meet somewhere.

Mate I asked why they wanted to charge so much for fitting, the girl who does the messages replied saying they’re using a new system which automatically works out the length of time it takes. Basically it’s just a system to make money. I’ve been out for drives with the lad who owns it as well and the lad who used to own it, I’m shocked they’d even put these prices forward!

Like I say performance centre Sunderland supplied my springs £10 cheaper than BTG and online.. and when they supply the parts they do discounted labour at £60 an hour. Quoted 3 hours and it probably took around 2.5. I had springs fitted to my M4 about 4 year ago there and I can’t fault them either time. Also to add, Lewis the sales manager used to have a facelift RS3 so they are familiar with the car. They quoted me £60 to recalibrate my mag ride but seemed to know what they’re chatting about where as BTG quoted £46 (I think) to recalibrate the mag ride but used the term ‘look into the magride for you’ which didn’t give me much confidence in that they knew what I meant when I said recalibrate it.

Tbf I was up at the Performance Centre a few weeks back chatting to them. Seemed nice lads. Lewis wasnt in but they told me about his car. Interesting about the mag ride though, they told me it wouldn't need recalibrating. Was only 2 of them in I was chatting to. Place seemed very quiet. Was also talking to them about a map but I'm leaning towards Revo.

Not the best photo but another photo of my Eibach sportline drop. Bare in mind I’m on P zero tyres which have a smaller side wall than Michelin’s etc. Michelin’s would fill arch slightly better.

Looks well. I think pros will do me though. It's now a weekend car but cba for the missus to chew my ear if we are out with the kids on a weekend and the ride is harsh lol. I'm still running p zeros. Going spacers all round too, got a saloon BTW.

I wouldn’t go to them for a map, but for some labour to fit springs mate don’t pay £313 when you could get it done for £180. It’s not hard stuff... and if they did anything with the mag ride when doing it you’d have fault codes anyway and they’d have to sort it. The only reason I didn’t do it myself is because I don’t have spring compressors and couldn’t be bothered. Don’t over pay for simple labour, if PCS can fit them in 3 hours then BTG can . Get a quote from them and send it to BTG to price match, see what they say. But £313 is extortionate and 4.35 hours labour is ridiculous. Also heard a horror story from a good mate who had springs fitted there but too long to post in here. Long story short, when they remove his calliper they left it hanging rather than hook it up, which in turn let it slam off the arm etc and basically chipped his brakes and all the paint.

Once magride is recalibrated I’ve heard from many people that comfort/dynamic feel the same as stock, so no harsh ride. :)

Having done many calibrations on RS3’s I’ve never had an owner report no improvement.

Once you lower it the datum points for magride are all ‘out’ so the system is receiving the wrong information which screws up the modes.

Well worth it in my opinion and I’m sure @DJAlix can concur here.

Thanks for this, good read. Can I just clarify, should I wait for a calibration to be done? I.e. 500 mile so for the springs to settle in the same way you'd wait a little to get an alignment done? Thanks

Technically, and long story short, you should calibrate straight away in order to record the new difference in resting hight and again once your springs have settled, however if you are ok with driving your vehicle "as is" and are not planning to drive it "hard" then you could wait until your springs have settled to perform a calibration. Different springs settle at different rates, and by different amounts, so its hard to say but I would suggest 500 miles plus.

Something to note, your vehicles systems (including safety systems) base their calculations on the resting hight of the vehicle which has now been off-set so ride quality and drive modes will be compromised, and safety systems will throttle performance unnecessarily if driven hard.

You only need to do 150-200 mile to allow the springs to settle and adjust. Then get your alignment done before the mag ride calibration.

I did Calibration straight away then did it again a few months later. There was a difference both times.

Interestingly when I did have my alignment done it was still in tolerance.

I fitted eibach springs 2 years ago with another owner giving me help. I totally forgot about the recalibration, shame on me.
However the car does not feel any different than before including a full track day.
I did however get the alignment checked a weeks and a couple of hundred miles later and it was well within manufacturing toletances.
I suppose I better get the maf ride done just to see if I can notice the difference in drives

Springs have arrived! Did I read somewhere that this rubber sleeve needs to stay on when fitted?

Interestingly place I'm taking to get them fitted said they contacted eibach who advised the pros don't require mag ride calibration. However they are going to do it for me anyway.
