Don't be a mug like me, got scammed over a Steering Wheel.. :(

Hey guys, please be gentle... I don't need any lectures on how not to be a stupid idiot, I'm giving myself a hard enough time already.

I'm normally really careful and research things I buy online carefully.. please don't fall for this guy, Zain Karim, on Facebook Marketplace like I did.. he's selling an Audi RS4 flat bottom steering wheel and has probably sold it many times already! He's got £300 of mine and I doubt he ever had the steering wheel in the first place... just want to stop anyone else falling for this scammer. He's very convincing, sent a proper invoice, very helpful, sent videos of him in a breakers with Audi's, various car parts being packed up, even sent a photo of the steering wheel with a note on with my name but only recently I realised it was a photoshop job as I found the same wheel and same picture on another advert but it was on a closed group I joined after getting done over.. I should have noticed all the signs but didn't in time and I sent the money by bank transfer, I even had second thoughts, called the bank to block payment, then let the money go through as he was so convincing. What a tool I am, but I saw something I really wanted for my car and wasn't thinking straight.. don't be a nob like I was! £300 down the toilet basically and that's a lot of money for me.

I'm going to report him to action fraud but doubt anything will happen. Have reported his listings on Facebook, but they won't do anything about it.

Tell me about it, no they won't do anything as it's a fraud job. Hopefully action fraud will look into it..

Think some of us have been there mate. I think with fb sales in general there’s a lot of dodgy people about.

Last year I sold a collectible video game on fb and the buyer insisted on having buyer protection with PayPal. I thought he was kosher but then accused me of selling a fake and got the money frozen. Luckily I could prove to PayPal it was genuine and I eventually got my money. So either way anyone here doing deals on fb I’d always meet in person and say cash only

Someone tried that on me a few years back with a phone and said I sent him a brick. Took ages getting my money back from PayPal. Seems the rules are to protect the buyer and not sellers. Like you cash in hand only now.

I know it's a bit after the fact but do as I do these days, unless it's someone you know really well and trust, treat all sellers with caution especially from websites and Facebook especially, so many scams on facebook now its just madness buying kit.
Once upon a time if one was ripped off by a seller there would be a much more effective method of dealing with them, sadly its not correct to think that way etc and we all have to pay the price in the end.
Sorry to hear of your problems chap but unfortunately it is just another one of many every day.
