Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have a pic of an S3 hatch back with the standard 19” wheels on.
I currently have the 18” which in my opinion look lost in the arch so I’m looking to upgrade.
Any help is much appreciated if someone had done this before on a hatchback.
Cheers
Ben

19's only came as standard with magride so was an expensive option as you had to pay for both to get the 19's on.
This was my S3 with the factory wingarm 19" wheels on although it was also lowered on Eibach pro springs

Nice
Ok cool I get what you mean. Do you know if there is any cons to running the 19’s without the mag ride ?

Many people do it, I guess the ride is a bit harsher but that wouldn't bother me if I prefered the look

Almost everyone here has 19'' normal thing .. look for aftermarket wheels many videos on YT as well
Standard 19'' S3 series has only saloon S3 or RS3 . The sportback S3 standard is 18'' or 19''
depend of how you want to configure and build vehicle, when you are original purchaser at audi.

Very true indeed. looks like I'll be trying to find a set of 19's then haha.

Thanks for the help

The driving isn't harsher for me at all.
Difference btw 18'' and 19'' is minimal. If you have everything setup correctly, tyre pressure, wheel alignment, and keep tyres profile 35 you should be good.
If you get 30 profile tyres things might change. And many ppl messing with springs and shockers, and mostly ending up with ''harsh'' driving

Yeh I agree.

I'm only looking to have the OEM + kinda look so nothing to extreme with tiny tyre profiles or slammed suspension as I will be using it daily.

I didn't mess with lowering.. There is reason why cars has limit set from factory

Mine is A3 Sport trim with 8J 19" ET45 alloys with 235/35/19 tyres. Many users here have got 8.5J 19"s, check wheel fitment threads, many pictures there.

Thank you, your car look awesome too !

How do u feel about lights?

This is with 19 x 8.5, lowered on Eibach sportlines, never had an issue with scraping anything on kirbs or speed bumps. and it was used daily with 3 kids

What's ET on those alloys? I know extreme ET or over 12mm spacers with 8.5J have been reported to rub on one of the wheel threads.

Lowered about 25 front and 15/20 rear. IMHO its perfect for the car, not too low and barely noticeable on the ride quality on most roads.
235/35/19 rubber, ET45 rims, perfectly flush on front and absolutely no rubbing anywhere. could get away with 5-8mm spacers on rear but I didnt bother

Nice.. looks brilliant.. ET45 is safe with 8.5J.

Ahh man it looks so much better with the 19’s though ! Fills the arch up just right in my opinion.
Any chance you want to sell them ? Ahaha
Not the wheels as that is how it came, but I do have 2 Cheap 235 19 M+S winters only 6 months use if anyone is interested for their winter wheels. give me a PM.

I've considered the move to original 19s for my Sportback (non Magride) but as the profile is smaller due to the larger rims you have to run slightly higher pressures over the 18s, this being 3psi front & 1psi rear for normal load and 4psi front+rear with a full load. The extra pressure coupled with shorter (XL spec) side wall will make for a firmed ride in my opinion.
The stock S3 Sportback suspension (non Magride) plus the 18s are a perfect combination so I don't want to make it any firmer plus it's a daily hack so why compromise, standard is the new modified ;)

That is a stunning example. Love Venetian. Lucky new owner
Its Panther black, was stunning in the sun, Id love to meet the new owner, very lucky indeed, condition wise it must be the best PFL's out there, its literally like new with a good spec.

The difference in comfort between 18's and 19's is quite considerable on stock suspension.

Having ran 19's on mine, I even went as far as changing the dampers to Koni Special Actives to cope with the disgracefully hard ride the 19's bring. It helped, but wasn't enough. This was on standard springs, then on Eibach Pro's. No issues with scraping with the Pro's but you do have to be careful with some kerbs when parking.

I went back to 18's in the end - the 18's with the Koni/Eibach setup is bliss. Granted the 19's looked better and the handling was improved, but I couldn't live with the back breaking ride day in day out. I do live in an area with more speed bumps than not, which probably didn't help, but I won't ever run 19's on a non-Magride A3/S3 again. Theres a reason why Audi didn't offer 19's without Magride.

Only you can tell if you can tolerate the ride or not...so you'll probably have to buy a set of 19's to trial.

Here is Me with my Sport Trim A3 8V and standard (SE) suspension, moved from 17s to 19s, felt no significant difference in ride quality. There was some increased noise That I had to deal with by putting some noise deadening material inside.
My brother has stock S-Line with 18s, feels harsher than mine.

This is exactly what i found, I appreciate Dubjams comments but I had gone from 18s to 19s and lowered it slightly and found no specific difference in harshness, only a little extra road noise but this can be tire specific anyway.

Yes it is the tire... Think 17s tyres were 68-69dB and 19s are 72-73dB for the best rated ones.. I got Michelin PS 4S on 19s.

The DB you are stating is the outside volume of the tyre, with regards to noise pollution, its dosent directly correlate to the inside cabin noise level. The increase in noise will be more from the size increase.

Thanks for that info... You learn something new everyday.
Hey I did rip the whole floor and add a layer of mlv. That has sorted the noise.

I have a MY 2017 S3 saloon running standard 19s and magride which I find noisy, it sounds 'open' behind you. Has anyone else noticed this ? and come up with a solution before I start working through this on my own?
My initial thoughts are the folding rear seats.

Experiment with different tires = expensive, The best way forward would be extra sound deadening. not too much faff if your careful with the interior trims.

The A3 is generally not very sound dampened, if you compare it to an A4, the in car noise is vastly quieter.

Even though some A3 models can be eye wateringly expensive, it's still one of the more 'budget' cars in Audi's range, so suffers from cost reductions, cabin insulation is definitely one of them. But as mentioned above, sound deadening is fairly cheap and easy to do yourself...but you will add some weight as the good stuff is fairly weighty!

I attempted noise reduction on my Sportback few months back.
I added vibration dampening stuff to floor of car, under backseats.. I used brand Nico, bought off amazon... There was no obvious difference in the cabin noise.
Later I added same to wheel well.. wheel well certainly needed vibration dampening.
On top of that I added Dodo Barrier MLV 2mm in wheel well, under back seats, and other raised sections of the floor. Added Dodo Mat Pro Barrier MLV in lower sections of the car floor (where mats go in front and rear).
Definite noise reduction after that, I think mlv did the magic. I do intend to add mlv in doors as well at some point.
I think I have added about 40kg to the weight of car.
