Curious to know if anyone who has it done has notified their insurers?

For what I think is essentially a cosmetic mod, my insurers are charging me double!!!

Why are you telling them? It’s completely undetectable.

Either that or I suggest you change insurers. My remap cost me £90 a year on my premium.

If you ask them nicely, they may pay for your modification..

Undetectable? Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't the insurers just look under the car?

the weald for the pcw mod is done on topside of the exhaust hence cant be seen from underside. exhaust note is the only giveaway. If your concerned, then dont get it done.

What would they see?

I always get any mods declared with insurance. Even if they are not immediately obvious. Imagine if through no fault of your own you ended up running some kid down. The insurers and police would strip your car down to the bare bolts to try and pin it on you!

with the exhaust mod, more chance of kid hearing you coming i reckon...

Watched the vid on YouTube of yours being done, what’s the difference in comfort like? The misses drives mine sometimes and I’m hoping the mod to leave it a bit quieter for when she’s driving

You got any vids from the outside of acceleration for comparison?

Cheers

I'm purely going off of people on here lol. Mine already sounds very similar to those in the videos once it's warmed up. So i'm hoping everyone here is right haha.

I'm going to get booked in also. He said earliest was March for weekdays and April for weekends. Takes around 90 minutes to do. I already recorded a video of how it sounds stock so I'll compare it in the same spot after doing the mod.

Sounds good, Mine is booked in for March, does anyone have a side by side comparison before and after this mod? All the ones on PCW are when the car is cold so they don't sound too much different from how mine sounds now when it is warm?

I've had mine done by Paul. Its worth the money for sure. Clips never do it justice either

My car is a PFL and has the sports exhaust and Secondary de-cat pipes and it sounds perfect now to me. Still quiet in comfort no drone at all, and deeper and more throaty in Dynamic.

One thing to note is it will get louder over a couple of weeks, the difference may not be night and day to start with but does get better and better.

Wow, my stage 1 PFL with secondary decats was insanely loud. Can't imagine what all that and a PCW mod would sound like!

No vids i'm afraid mate - I really need to sort out some at some point. Its the first thing people mention when they talk to me about it. I have to say, the additional boost makes a big difference to the sound too.

No worries!

I'm going seeing Paul to have the mod tomorrow, so will feed back my thoughts. I'm currently unemployed so the flexibility of being able to see him in midweek means I've got in there less than a week after contacting him (cancellation slot) winning :)

Lol - I had the same flexibility however thankfully from running ones own business and not unemployment (touch wood).

I got one in March now on a weekday afternoon. Random question but how do you pay him? By cash?

£350 from memory I think he charges and he only takes cash. However we had two done at the same time so I think it was £300 each.

It's £300 and in cash.

I went down Wednesday, massively transformed the car, well happy with the new ASBO-chariot.

Having heard what I assume was a stock sports exhaust RS3 go past me today, I have to say that it didn't sound like it needed improving! Such a distinctive sound, you know without looking that it's the Audi 5-pot. I'm not sure there's many other engines on the market from any manufacturer that is more distinctive.

You had the mod done when you already had the sports exhaust and secondary decats? I thought this mod was for cars with the standard exhaust to turn them into what the sports exhaust sounds like! I also have a valve controller which I’m loving, I’d love to know how this improved things even further for you!!

I had a PFL with Audi sports exhaust. I then did the secondary decats.

My valves jammed open a couple of times (a common fault) and it was just too much!

Afaik sports is better than standard exhaust but the PCW mod makes them both the same as the baffles etc are cut out.

I agree with you which is why I've chosen a later date to get it. I'll enjoy the stock sound now then in end of March/early April I'll get the mod. As I wrote in the other thread, I have noticed people looking at the car while driving past. A car behind me yesterday at the lights started revving at me so I started revving back. You get some nice pops in Neutral. He looked like he was enjoying it.

I had people hanging out of their cars either taking a pic or video footage! Tbf though I used to take it out of gear and rev it a bit on the move + dummy launches when sat at lights etc!

Today I went under a bridge with the pan roof open and revved it and wow it was loud. You never get the true sound from videos. I can't imagine how it'll be like after the PCW mod.

Also can you guys confirm if its still quiet in comfort mode after the mod?

It’s not as loud as when it’s in Dynamic - if that helps! Lol

It’s quieter for sure but not like it was when it was stock. Not horrendous.

It's still much quieter in comfort mode (at least it is with my stock exhaust) - my missus hasn't complained about the noise whereas she does in dynamic haha

I'm with Elephant, they charged me £60 more over my non-declared policy for "exhaust non-standard" and were still £10 cheaper than the next best I could find.

I never understand the point in sitting there reving an engine. They only come to life under load and with these engines only when they’re boosting. That video gives no real idea what it sounds like.

Mine sounds completely different top end of the rev range under load with this mod and a stage 1 tune.

Got mine done yesterday. Clip doesn't do it justice but we made a before and after video. Jay is right that it comes to life when driving it, that's where I noticed the most difference.

Hi All, this is a little premature as ive not got the sq5 yet but on the verge of a purchase (2018 petrol). I'll be honest, one thing that draws me to cars are wheels and exhausts, and the sound. Therefore i have been doing a bit of googling about the sq5 exhausts and alternative options. I like the sound of the ones in this post but just wondering if you can do this mod, with tailpipes and if so how much bodywork is involved in removing the standard default plastic trim. Hope that makes sense. Thanks all

Does anyone know if the PCW exhaust mod also addresses the infamous cold startup rattle? Or is that something that's easily fixable when he's doing his thing to the back box? I read somewhere it's to do with a valve pin that Audi couldn't be bothered to work out the right tension for, to stop it rattling on cold startup (as the default startup is in comfort mode with valves closed) and most RS3 FL's have that tin can rattle, is that right? thanks guys
(I have a 2018 FL saloon with sports exhaust)
