Tracking our new RS3?

I was torn between a Golf R and the RS3, decided to go RS3 as I think the new Golf R interior and info system are a step backwards from the normal Golf standards.

With Golf the delivery time was 24 weeks on an 'R' and the sales lad said it was 54 weeks on a GTI and yet at one time it was the other way around.

This leads me to believe at the moment with chip shortage etc that VW (and probably Audi) allocate 'x' amount of a certain model to be built at a certain time, If you 'miss' the next 'reduced batch build' numbers you will go to the next batch which will be around a year

So my guess is with RS3 you will either get your car within approx 6 months if you ordered early enough or around a year if you missed the first batch.

PS:................Just my theory at the moment :)

I had an order in for an R back in April (ish) but cancelled it as delivery timeframes were long and I had hoped they’d get better… . They were only 4 months wait then…

I was put off by infotainment issues from reviews but owners are not reporting any issues with use ability so I think it’s usual rubbish feedback from you tubers / reviewers- don’t know why I paid attention to them…

Glad I did though as whilst the R is far far cheaper, I just dont care and want that 5cyl

I know someone who cancelled a gti, didn’t realise it was that bad! One thing is for sure nice spec RS3’s will be hot property when they do eventually start coming through.
100%! And will have the cheeky c**ts listing it at crazy money! Already seen someone on the Facebook forum trying to sell his launch edition build slot for £65k!!!!!

My work colleague has a nicely optioned GTi in Kings Red metallic,DDC,19s,panoramic roof and few other options its a classy looking car.... he's had it for 2 months now...no issues until this week warning lights all came on sporadically as did the heated seats, steering wheel ...he's just a had letter from VAG for a recall ie a major software update he still loves the car though it was an ex demo l actually prefer the looks of the Golf Gti/R over the 8y S3

I'd say selling for crazy money is clever buying for crazy money is stupid
Clever if your not overly involved with your car ie like me when l got my TT l could have sold for a good bit of profit but in the last month l have been really enjoying driving it....it goes ....and drives around corners/bends that my 8V could never do still hate the colour though lol

You can always sell the parts you have added when the time comes . Do you have any regrets buying the TT apart from the colour ? I think they are great cars we lent a TTS off Audi Bolton back in 2015 for 4 days as our car had been stolen I really enjoyed it and it felt a lot more sportier than the S3 overall but with 2 kids wasn't an option for us unfortunately .

I couldn't see myself going back to a front wheel drive but If I did it would probably be a GTI and it would be in kings red I think it really suits the car .

No regrets as it stands it can be quite economical as well no car is perfect as you know l love the interior especially the satin blue trim and the light grey leather really makes the interior feel special ....could never have a car with all black leather... you’ve got the design pack on your S3 that pack really lifts the interior and it looks special...for me the interior is a little more important than the exterior hence no 8Y RS3 for me until a design package and pan roof become individual options

Kings red is nice. Better than tornado red in my view, although not an option on the R (once I’ve had the R I would struggle with “just” a gti - not that I want to get into a discussion on which is best, the R was best for me).

There is that risk with early cars I suppose and is something I’m mindful of with my 8y being one of the very first…. It has a confirmed build week of this past week so should be made now

Agree with you on the golf looking better than the Audi… lucky the rs3 sounds much better

Exactly. Must admit the thought of selling on did cross my mind… I’ve spent a lot of time looking at car options though (basically all through lockdown) and the problem is that the rs3 is what I want. It ticks nearly all the boxes and those it doesn’t I couldn’t afford the options that did (992 for example).

Prospect of making a quick £5k or whatever would be nice but it wouldn’t fix my car buying problems…

I had both a TTS (ex launch car) well specced with mag ride/STronic etc in Silver and a Mk2 TTRS manual in black.

As much as I hate to admit it the TTS was the nicer car to drive quick, it was quite nicely balanced against the heavy front feel to the TTRS which would climb up at the rear when braking hard for a corner and never really take a nice set once into the corner

As much as I have my order in for a Tango red Vorsprung SB I also have an agreement that if I dont like the test ride in the RS3 demo I get my deposit back and the order is cancelled.

Theres just a few things ringing alarm bells regarding RS3 like the bigger front tyres (265 v 235 rears) and the extra weight of the 5 pot, I have driven a new Golf R and once in ESC Sport mode it would take something quite special to catch one down certain roads

I thought i’d ask Audi yesterday if there was any news on my Vorsprung and they said wont have a build week for a few weeks yet. That might be a vanilla response and the two weeks thing is just a fob off, but worth asking anyway.

Yeah the design pack was a big factor in us buying the car as you say it lifts the cabin .
The lack of individual options Is one factor that has held me back from ordering the new Rs3 . My ideal spec is
standard Rs3 as I prefer the alu trim . Racing mica blue , Roof rails , C+S pack , sports exhaust , Matrix headlight , interior design pack . Shame I can't have it :3sadwalk:

With a bit of luck things will change on the options front down the line but I won't hold my breath .

If I was in a position to have one of the first Rs3's and was offered £5k over list it would be gone straight away

The 265"s are to counter the understeer i'am guessing . Its all about the 5pot and the sound it makes for me over anything else compared to 4pot's that just don't compare . To be honest I haven't even considered a new Golf 8R I have owned the 6R and 7R the interior was a big put off for me with the new 8R but from the reviews its it is a very capable car .

Edition 45 is quite tasty with the Akro exhaust, but lead times mega

Haven’t the bigger fronts been a feature for sometime on the RS3? May have gone slightly wider for 8Y

Granted yes, but you’ll always get someone wanting an 8V even at todays prices, just look at AA and their pricing hence the chancers that order new cars to sell on like AA,SSC etc.

Certain manufacturers would frown upon people ordering their models to sell straight on, Porsche with the GTS, Merc with the G Wagon etc.

Neighbour across from me has/had one the same, it’s been ‘missing’ for 5 weeks now.
He said it’s at VW dealer, they can’t fix all the issues with the software because there’s no update from VW HQ yet.
He’s only had it 4 months.

I did consider the 8R but as you say, it’s all about the 5pot noise!

You can’t get a decent sound from that golf engine, or most 4pots tbh.

It’s fast for sure but I wanted noise!!!

No doubt there will be loads of drag comparisons of the rs3 with all the 4 pots (merc/vw/Honda/bmw) on YouTube before too long….

Ouch that’s pretty bad. Do they have a loan car from vw?

I’d want another R to run around in whilst they were “fixing” it!!

I hope the 8Y RS3 sounds as good as you all hope it does time will tell l suppose

No loan car.
I think he’s talking about rejecting it.

Seems the OPF cars are sounding better now that they have had time
To tweak, as initially they just chucked the OPF filter in for the regs, but as you say time will tell

Maybe......but there is zero understeer in the Golf 8R with 235 all round, if anything it's on the oversteer side of a complete 4 wheel drift when pushed hard mid corner and exiting a medium sized roundabout whereas my Golf R 7.5 is just understeer when pushed that hard

But the fronts on the FL 8V were wider than rear weren’t they?

Yes correct 255 and 235 on 8V

265 and 245 on the 8Y but with the same brand new rear differential / torque splitter as the Golf8R.

I ordered 24/08, factory accepted the order just over a week later but no build week yet after checking again this morning.
I think I just scuppered that anyway by adding exclusive paint to my Carbon Black Saloon today... I'll just sit and wait patiently for another 6 months doh!!!!

told me that no vorsprung orders would be accepted until September.

There appears to be quite a few Golf (in general not just R and GTI) owners not happy with the new info layout and software bugs, anything from nav freezing/car not overtaking when ACC in use, set speeds switching between mph/kph and numerous Climate issues.

But oddly it's not all cars so not totally software related.

Someone also complaining of car headlights switching on and off in his drive which turned out to be he had set 'turn lights on when approaching car' and I imagine his key was boardering on the activation point so maybe some faults are user finger trouble
