Frank Stippler doing the record lap, just imagine how much quicker he would have been with a flat bottomed steering wheel

OOps! I had them both up comparing corner speeds, This was the one I thought I had posted.....................Apologies :(

RS3 is 6-8kph up on the Golf 8R at every apex, but there again Stippler was Porsche Supercup champion, Dont forget the Golf R is only 15 seconds slower around here

Haha, that makes more sense!

I wonder if the Golf had a full roll cage adding a bunch of extra weight like the RS3 appears to have? Jokes aside, I know the Golf is ridiculously quick and I’m sure that on a normal road it would be very hard to separate them. I’ll happily say I only want the RS because of the 5-pot, being an Audi fanboy and I love the idea of ceramic brakes on a hatchback. No logical reasons!

It wasn’t really a fair comparison between the two drivers in the video’s,

Stippler, an ex Porsche Supercup champion is so much faster into the corner whereas the Golf driver is slower in but earlier on the power so hard to compare but the RS3 was much quicker down the straights

Worth a watch though to see just how hard the RS3 can be pushed

worst filming I’ve ever seen but about 13 RS3’s on one shot. Looks like the big press event in Greece

To my untrained eye it looks like the tyres are the standard Pirelli's versus the optional Trofeo R's that we don't get here. I was hoping that was the case so that they don't get an impression of how well it turns in and accelerates with a compound we can't even spec in the UK.

Presumably we can buy those tyres if we wanted? Just can’t spec from Audi?

Might be fun to add them in once the first set has worn…

I would assume so, but to be honest I wouldn't want to live with the wear which I'd imagine is significant. I think I'd run the standard PZeros then replace with a Michelin offering, maybe a Pilot Sport 4S as I've had good experience with them in terms of performance and wear.

really liking the Matt black alloys but still not convinced by those graphic print gloss versions ?!

interior stitching contrast seats / door arms / steering wheel really does look ace ... such a shame we can’t have that.

My S3 came with Pzeros handling in the warm was great,My TTS had a different type of Pzeros fitted from the factory RO1's of which l also got fitted on my S3 after the factory fitted had expired....brilliant tyres the TT had so much grip with these tyres, Pzeros l dont have any problems with at all but l wont pay over the odds for a similar Michelin tyre,l am glad l didnt keep the TT long enough for tyre changing time to come around pretty expensive for 255/30/20
To divert the topic somewhat
l also think the RS3 wont be that much faster than the TT because of the power to weight ratio TT 1440kg lot lighter than the G8R but l hope the RS3 will be.....All variants of the RS3 and in particular the 8Y RS3 are overpriced as your buying into the brand its not got £10k worth of car over a S3 it's all down to image and we are all buying into this brand for one reason or another for that RS emblem on the front/back

There’s an embargo until the 26th (I’m surprised they showed the videos above from the press launch in Greece) but the dude from Auditography that was there is saying that the new RS3 is a LOT faster than the claimed 3.8sec 0-60. What a “LOT” actually translates to, guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Have you had much experience with the Michelin versions though? For cars and bikes I’ve run Pirelli and Michelins back to back and the Michelins have always been better for me, and I’d say you definitely get better mileage and at least the same grip out of them when compared to the equivalent Pirelli which makes them worth the money for me.

One of the guys testing has already said it did a 3.6sec 0-60

Interesting, and whilst 0.2sec isn’t much, I guess when you start talking sub 4 seconds, every 10th is significant. I was expecting around the 3.5 sec mark.

Will be interesting once people start putting Stage 1/2 tunes on them.

The lower 0-100k times will come from the new rear diff being able to shuffle the power to the rear wheel with the most grip + the fact that it makes it's 400hp lower and for longer in the rpm range so more area under the curve, think of it like a stage 1 tune with the peak hp cut off at 400 hp

To follow you down the diversion…

Agreed although I would say most are paying over the odds for that 5 pot rather than the rs badge - although the rs badge is the price you pay (pun intended) to get that 5 pot…

If that engine was in the golf I would happily have it rather than strive to have the rs badge. Likely why vag won’t ever put the 5 banger in the golf…

It’s mostly down to the torque I would say.

Those tweaks to the torque (which contribute to power changes given power is related to torque x engine revs) will contribute to it feeling faster - as you say it’s all about area under the curve

And you can get 5 pot in a Cupra but only LHD and no trick diff - last gen only

Just dont get carried away as it wont resemble a car that you can buy in the UK, the interior on 'techinthecars' video looks plain/awful/drab, not even the pan roof seems to lighten it up, just black, black and more black

Steering wheel

Front end just looks too much

Lack of round RS centre dial.

Brake discs still not LH/RH

Rear diffuser has less dividers

Back end looks like it reversed into a gloss black honeycomb shop and lost

Interior is a fingerprint magnet on every surface you touch.

Plus points

6 pot calipers

Pano roof is one full piece as opposed to having that surround that can crack in the corners (happens on the Golf)

It still has the 5 cylinder engine and the trick new rear Diff.

SW is a shame… something so classically an indicator of an RS product to be missing is a real shame. You can get it on a golf but an rs3…? I will be fine with mine being round but still, is a shame.

I’ve seen that you do have the option of showing the round dial like on the previous gen. may just have been missed from that video - I am sure I’ve seen it on others…

Brake discs not being handed is annoying cost saving crap… I hadn’t spotted that before but now that’s going to bug me!

Really?! I’m the uk? Didn’t know that.

Which cupra? That formentor suv thingy?

Yes, Audi let Cupra stick the 5 cylinder in the Formentor and called it VZ5.

It’s limited run of 7,000 units but it LHD only. Now confirmed that UK will get some cars....wait for it.....UK is receiving 10 cars....yes 10 cars. So don’t think you’ll get your hands on one easily (better off with a Launch Edition RS3)

Nope, the new displays do not have the original single centre tacho as per the 8V. There are 3 view options, but not that one.

The same view I had in my B9 S4, it was definitely my preference out of the options available. I'm not that much of a fan of the two RS specific versions to be perfectly honest, I think that they could've done much better but maybe leaving room for improvement for the facelift. :tearsofjoy:

I really thought I had seen the single centre rev dial option… shame.

Of the new options the runway is the worst for me - no chance I will be using that one…

You say that, but I was the same until I took a ride in a friends RSQ3 which went, turned corners and stopped nothing like I expected!

Not even any white stitching on the steering wheel? *** Audi come on

You get blue stitching AND a flat bottom on a Golf R witout even having to ask!

Tbf I did flirt with the rsq3 as a doggo waggon before there was any news on the rs3 but I have a stubborn streak and have been moaning about cars becoming too big so couldn’t live it down if I went for an suv over an estate now
