What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

I bought it like that, but everyone i've seen that does it mentions they think it looks cleaner (obvs not in the sense of wiping your window clean)

I just don't get it, I'd rather have my back window cluttered with a wiper blade than obscured with spray.

Couple of little jobs on the Falcon today.
Firstly i replaced the one boot strut i had left with 2 new ones, so now i have a boot that stays open.

Then i replaced the number plate light bolts with some new black ones that have an Allen key socket rather than Phillips.

LED ones?

Got the old girl up on axle stands as just wanting to look at a few maintenance bits really so going to freshen up the Calipers, ordered a new 034 motorsport snub mount, emptied out the intercoolers which surprisingly had very little in wanted to get the Downpipe off as I can feel the flexi is starting to go but looks like the nuts from the Downpipe to the cat are rusted and abit rounded so no idea how to get them apart?

Another little job today.
Got a new cabin filter.

Think it was a definite seen as there was half a rain forest in there :leafwind:

Also noticed that at the back of the cabin filter, it looks unfinished, is there a part missing or is this normal?

They should ban those ordinary cabin filters , might aswel use some kitchen towel paper .

The number plate lights are LED, i fitted them a couple of days ago with other bolts but bought some new bolts too.
The lights i bought ages ago just never fitted.

Any faults with them?
Mine have been fine, but some guys have had to fit resistors due to not being recognised by the CANBUS system.

Have you check for water under your battery? The puddle would complete your rainforest effect.
There's a rubber bung under it for draining purposes.

On the 1st day of fitting them it kept flashing up that a light was out, but quickly realised that was because i hadn't tightened the crap phillips screw properly.
Had no problems since fitting the new bolts that keep them in place better.

Haha, i did give it a quick glance and feel around as i was checking for anymore debris.

Not sure if you know but when the battery tray overflows it runs through the bulkhead, into the passenger footwell generally.

Lost part of the heat shield going down the A52 today. Made a hell of a noise, thought the exhaust was about to fly off!

Fitted the 034 motorsports engine mounts this afternoon. Got a suprise when i took the driverside one off to find its **** had fallen out. The passenger side was still in one peice only just so definitely a few thousand miles passed their best.

Anyhow, the drive feels much smooter and gear changes feel less awkward too aswell as the irritating rattle when taking up drive so all is well, for a change!

All topped off with a quick clean too.

Not such a good day for the old bus, it has been a bit chilly in the mornings and the heater doesn't want to play ball, well it gets a bit warm but that's it.
I suspect its the dreaded heater matrix airlock, i did a waterpump.cambelt change in the summer so that maywell be the culprit.
car runs fine and sticks dead on 90 , no leaks etc , hot water is reaching the heater inlet connection but only a dribble coming out the top connection which is cold .
A quick go this afternoon was unsuccessful so i think it will be raised header tank job and some careful bleeding of that top hose , always something to do.

When did you last change the themostate, that can cause these faults as well.

Bit of a faf undoing the top nut on the drivers mount, had to use a stubby 13mm rachet spanner and work it out very slowly, but the rest was easy enough, especially on the ramp

Sorry after reading your post again, it does seem like an airlock.
Hi Richard,
it is the dreaded B7 matrix air lock....:sob:

I managed to avoid it in the past but its stuck this time around.
Spent this morning bleeding it with 90% success, still a bit left in the system but I will have another session tomorrow, it is much better now so that is a good start.

I'm ripping off the suspension this afternoon to refit the KW's , so that will no doubt have more issues to deal with..lol

Managed to clear the persistent airlock in my heater, now it's nice a hot again so ready for the cooler weather.
Also spent a while getting myself organised for the suspension swap over, i don't always get to organised with some jobs but this is one that i do make the effort like they say, fail to prepare and you prepare to fail. :thumbs up:
All geared up this evening and spent an hour removing both fronts, nice straightforward job with no issues .
I'll wack the new front ones tomorrow morning then move onto the rears.

I think this might need doing to mine, the AC is pretty much non existent even though the gas is full.
Is it a hard job Rob, i've never done it before?

Tps delivered a B7 care package this morning in the shape of 1 of the 2 Rs4 brackets for the brembo calipers (the final part i should have done months ago!) And a pair of rear spring lower rubber cups.

Fitted one of the brackets after work so thats another little job done.

Also found out the window lock button isn't actually broken either so thats one less thing to sort out.

Now just waiting on Autodoc to deliver my rear discs and pads then its off for the MOT.

Alex

Have you replaced your springs previously ?
I have, did the springs a few month back after one suffered the usual fate. I did notice at the time the spring seats need changing but didn't have the time to source the parts when doing the spring replacement.

Progressed a bit further with the Coilover upgrade, yesterday.
Bilstein Fronts came off really well, KW fronts went back on just as easy then for reasons I still cannot understand my nearside front driveshaft decided to become detached at the engine joint, and just continue to give me grief for the rest of the day so that put me well behind with the job, in the end, I just gave up with it and put back on my OE shaft, not ideal but still better than the new Autodoc item.
The rears gave me some hassle as the KWs won't go in as easy as the H&R did, another strange one to be honest, still, a lowering of the subframe made enough room to get them in.

Adjusted the front ride height allowing for a 5mm approx settlement.
Rears are a real pain to adjust but luckily I didn't need to use too much of the available adjuster.

One small irritation was the missing grub screw from one of the adjusters so it couldn't be secured from rotating, managed to find suitable ones to choose from at my local fastener company.

before I started I took ride-height data from all 4 corners as a baseline for new ride heights, fronts were not even and can be seen in the pics, the rears were very low and the tyre is already inside the wheel arch with just an unladen car.
pics you can see the uneven rideheights.

So had a break from it today and did some gardening with a view of resuming tomorrow with fresh eyes etc and get it completed. :icon thumright:

So far all in not a bad job, just the other issues that made it more irritating, was it worth it, hell yes as it will address that uneven front end and bring the back end up level again.
my phone ran out of power so couldn't get any more better pics but will do when it is on the ground all configured

All done and very pleased with the coilover upgrade, happy days.
also done a write up for those interested in doing the same but are a little unsure if it's the way to go forward.

Check your heater hoses that pass through the bulkhead.
stick your heater on max temp and speed.
Check If the bottom hose is hot when the engine is at normal operating temp and the top hose is cold.
If the top is cold or just lukewarm you most likely have an airlock in the matrix as hot water is reaching it just not passing through.
move the top hose clip and pull the hose almost all the way off but not completely off.

If you wipe the hose on the top near the end you'll see a small round hole, by pulling the hose off just enough that the hole is clear of the metal heater connection pipe , air can escape through it and help clear the airlock in the matrix.

You need to have the engine running at around 2k or more to get the water pump really moving water around, on idle isn't enough, just do it a few times, push the hose back on for a minute then pull it off enough to vent again, done a few times you get pretty well all the air out and water circulating again.
You can also vent the system nearby from the water pipe that runs along the side of the engine top cover, the metal pipe has a small bolt that you can loosen to vent.

give it ago , it only really work though if you have an airlock , if your water is not hot at the heater input then you'll need to work back to the thermostat etc.

hope that helps a bit.

I have a rattling noise on start up . Sounds like timing chain tensioner . Then as soon as I oil pressure is reached it’s gone . Only does it on a cold start up for 5 - 10 seconds . And as I will be selling car soon I want it fixed before I sell it . Help please

Does it happen every time you start or just random?
what about if engine warm or on a cold start in the morning?
