I replaced my 2018 S3 with a 2016 RS3.

Part of the attraction was an Audi Exclusive colour and big spec to go with a drivetrain upgrade. It’s a pre-facelift with the last of the iron block 5-cyl engines and optional super sports exhaust. Meaning that now-illegal noise is the compensation for losing my old S3’s Tech Pack.

Cars like the Golf R32 are already history and the RS3 will be headed that way soon, too. I’ll have owned both before they got too old for daily use.

Worth silly money now. Saw one go for around £15k with low mileage. A lot of money for a 10-15 year old golf

Hi Terry,
It wasn't me who commented on the price of painting the key, but I had looked at your spec, and your options alone cost more than twice the price of my 987 after exchange rates! Not saying it's not worth that or that I wouldn't go for it if money was no object.
I look to buying a Cayman as a daily rather than a collector's car and the base makes sense compared to Audi's latest offerings and prices, if you don't go mad on the options. I did think the Porsche Bose system in the 2020 Cayman I took out was very disappointing though at the side of the S3 B&O. Unfortunately the flat 4 engine and steering feel of the 718 was also bit of a let down compared to the 987.
The Cayman is still the top of the list, possibly in EV format when it eventually arrives and things have settled down.

I drove the new 4-0 litre 718 GTS a few weeks ago....that was amazing....but not a car to use as a daily driver....your car is even more hard-core...so hats off to you mate...enjoy it to its best

The 2021 GT4 is actually in reality built by Porsche as a Track/Racing car not actually for the street.
Mine is not being tracked or raced but I can say it's certainly not what the majority of people would want to use as a Daily-Driver on the street.
My wife's car is a VW Golf R so that's actually for the majority of daily use.
The Golf R is an Awesome Machine and easily for use on the street and Long-Distance traveling.
And the cost is much easier on one's pocket.












The day we actually picked-up the 2021 Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 at Porsche of Nashville.

Pricy yes, but you can (or can't at the moment) buy a base Cayman and tick nearly £9k of options for the similar price of a TTS Vorsprung. Makes it look a bargain as a daily driver. It won't quite have the performance or handling (or discount) of the TTS but I know where my money will be going when the time comes. And Gentian Blue looks incredible in the flesh!

The Porsche dash must have the most useless analogue speedo ever fitted to a car. I can't remember ever looking at mine whilst on the move. No doubt the 2025 EV 718 will have some form of VC if that's important to you. There are plenty of negatives with the Porsche, one being main dealers that lift you leg considerably higher than Audi when it comes to servicing. The main positive for me is the way the Cayman/Boxster drives and feels on the road and what mine seems to give back compared to my S3. So would be my choice - certainly over the current Audi S3 or TTS offerings.
The positive of the TT is its better performance/handling and practicality (I don't need that though with Mrs T having a "sensible" car). A fantastic a
car, but one negative of the TT for me is that it looks a bit of a lump for a sports car and that in reality, it's just a Golf in a posh frock.
First world problem because I really only NEED a car to carry a bit of stuff and get from A to B... Dacia Duster?

Its why I like the S60 being a Hybrid, not full electric.

Does around 30miles on battery alone, has 405bhp, 4.4second 0-60, Ohlins suspension, AWD, seats so comfortable and supportive that Audi could only dream of, full of tech that Audi options would have you spending a small mortgage on, and the MPG is immense, oh and its a proper looker compared to the new super fugly A/S3.

They do hold their prices though, hence why I am biding my time as I buy to own not rent.

The ev6 is meant to share the same platform at the Hyundai ioniq. There’s a 600 odd bhp one coming soon that looks interesting.
Looking at Evs for the mrs and the ev6/ioniq is on the shortlist but mainly depends on who can deliver a car faster. Couple of Audi dealers already said to me it’s 12 months depending on lode. Tesla and merc seems to be faster.

Know you have a saloon just now but those with hatchbacks yet wanting performance have fewer options or have to go SUV-esq to get one eg Model Y

Mines a sportback and does what I need it to do for now. Gonna keep it a while and go ev for mrs. Need something a bit bigger as family bus.
Mrs doesn’t need silly power or acceleration but would be a nice bonus for me.

I’m starting to look for a replacement for my facelift s3 black edition sportback pre-gpf model. I seem to have ran out of ideas what is a good replacement.
I was at the dealership today and a basic s3 with a couple of options is coming in at £100 more per month. Which wasn’t too bad but feels like I’m getting a lesser car for more money per month and hitting the £500+ Road tax.
would be good to see what you guys have moved on to and any good suggestions.
Ideally similar performance but open to left field suggestions like a defender. Other options is to keep it and maybe give it a tune instead.
seems like a good time to sell but not to buy.

Haven,t regretted changing to my Cupra Ateca from my S3 saloon.
Basically an s3 but better.

I would say hold off buying anything new at the current market as it looks like a **** show. A nice stage 1 tune transforms the car. Would suggest getting it done on a dyno than some back yard plug and play software.

Its not going to get better, as so many cars now are under-specced because of chip shortages, so the used market is going to be dismal for years to come.
