Goosey built S4

£578 brand spanking new, with clips and SS brake lines from the lads at Unit 82:-
https://unit82performanceparts.co.u...r-kit-with-brake-lines?variant=41178346061997

Then (as i am a stickler for OEM+) i shipped them to BCS Automotive for painting in Gloss Black @ a cost of £200 (as the calipers are new and do not need refurbing - they turned them around in 4 days):-
https://www.bcs-automotive.co.uk/

Then i stuck on my own high temp decals sourced from BCD @ £7.95:-
https://www.brakecaliperdecals.co.uk/Audi-Decals/Audi-S4-Brake-Caliper-Decals-Tri-Colour

I hope this helps.. when i get all the invoices together I'll tot-up the grand total for my "mild" big brake kit.

I know for certain i could have done this cheaper if i didn't get the calipers painted (or painted them myself), and got cheaper front disks and pads.. and didn't opt for matching rear disks as well at the same time! But hey-ho they're done now and should last for quite some time, so on to the next mod :)

Thanks. Reasonable price on brand spankers calipers.

I've been waiting for a very long time for a used set of Brembo calipers to come up on eBay with no luck, so I've bitten the bullet and brought a set from Unit 82. Great price with lines included.

Thanks for posting

Youre very welcome cadguy.. out of interest what disks / pads do you think you'll go with, and will you paint them or fit as is?

If youve not seen it, this vid is super helpful:

I'm going with EBC slotted and dimpled brake discs and yellow stuff pads all round. I plan to paint black also to match rears.

Nice milestone ticked off.

Any power/torque figures and/or graphs?
Cheers cadguy77

Install was done by approved MRC dealer, CM Tuning nr Leeds, as they are closer to me than Banbury.. altho they only do a road tune, not dyno. No biggie for me as I'll most likely pop over to Awesome Gti for a few power runs on their dyno, just so i have a graph :)

Based on mods/fuel etc the guesstimate is circa 460-480bhp and around the 600Nm of torque... certainly felt that way on the drive home lol!

When i bought the car last Oct it had nearly new Uniroyal RainSport3s on all round, which with stock power were surprisingly good all-rounders (even on track at Oulton Park).. but now with the power hike they defo have met their limits, as I have never seen a traction control light flash so much on a Quattro!!!

All good fun - on to the next mod.

As long as you use 99 RON it ought to be 475-485PS. I've seen a lot of MRC graphs for B8s and they're all in that range.
Did they give you your old crank pulley? It would be interesting to know if there were signs of degradation.

I don't use anything but 99.. much to Mrs. Gooses annoyance.

Yep i have the old crank pulley, and i did give it the once over and couldn't see any obvious signs of degradation (altho I'm not a mechanic, so not entirely sure what I'm looking for!)

I think most shocking was the weight of the old pulley... nearly 4kg!!

I'm not certain of the billet one-piece MRC crank pulley weight, but my guess is less than 2kg.. so I'm calling that a "racecar" weight-saving win

Here's a photo of my OE pulley which was removed at less than 10K. The polymer (a.k.a. rubber) is visible in the 5 ovalish holes and the circular gap between the two parts. If you press it there will be slight give, and with great effort you can just about feel the flex between the two parts. Most of the photos I have seen of failed pulleys are of catastrophic failures, but I have seen some which are whole but there are cracks visible in the polymer.
Newish crank pulley
FYI I have a Vdamper which is the Fluidampr core with an outer ring made by IABED engineering. I believe the outer ring is aluminium yet the whole thing is still noticeably heavier than the OE damper - I think it's over 6kg: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/842652-Crank-Pulley-Weights

Another advantage of 99 RON is that it is only 5% ethanol. Whilst Audi say our cars can take E10 fuel, I have seen some threads on Audizine starting to suggest that higher levels could be responsible for some of the issues owners have had there. May be irrelevant but better safe than sorry...

Isn't Shell V Power E10? IIRC the only E5 99 ron is the new texaco one.

"From 1st Sep '21, Shell V-Power will be the company's "protection grade" fuel - meaning it will remain as E5. It will be available to the "vast majority" of Shell's around 1,000 UK forecourts. Shell FuelSave will be the garage's E10 petrol and the fuel pumps will be labelled with stickers."

Yes, Momentum is E5. I’ve switched over to Tesco and can barely feel any difference.

Not sure I have ever seen red brake fluid - is it a high temp one?

It has ATE TYP200 Dot 4 in it.. the rears bled clean, but the fronts bled out a dirty red colour. Super weird, never seen anything like it.. anyway, bled some more till it went clean, and now they feel better.. so ill call it a win :)

It looks as though, when E10 was introduced as the new standard for 95RON unleaded, the various of 99RON premium unleaded have kept it at E5, thus widening the market for it. Where before it was primarily bought by us enthusiasts with our high perforance cars, it'll now be bought by owners of older cars that can't run on E10.

Ah very nice Andrew! I see you went with the Quattro logo'd version too.. I've not got round to fitting your old grille I bought off you yet, have been too busy tinkering with performance mods. Once I'm happy with the cats/heat exchangers/tyres etc, I'll turn my attention to a few subtle exterior tweaks.

What's next for you? Have you looked at the matching open honeycomb fog light grilles to match the new RS grille? I fitted some a few months back and they look and fit great...

Cheers

Initial thoughts on the ARB?

Only got to do a few miles on it so far.. but defo feels like it squats and presses harder into the tarmac on the outside rears as you feed in the power exiting corners.. only prob now is lack of grip from my Rain Sport 3's, so may see a bit more oversteer :)

I've run upgraded anti roll bars on a few cars over the years and always loved the improved grip - £ for £ the best mod ever. I ran Neuspeed on my Mk4 R32, 034 Motorsport on my B7 S4, and SuperPro on my 300bhp Mk1 Tiguan... and did many track days in all of them.

Cheers

If I ever get back to upgrading the S4 (Not mine anymore as my fiancé sold her DB9 and took over the S4!) it is the first thing I would do I think.

Yes I wasn't sure about the quattro part but one of my colleagues has an RS3 with it and convinced me!
Spacers next just a subtle tweek but most probably a ghost as 2 have gone missing locally and one was used in a jewellery shop robbery ☹️

Ghost immobilizer and faraday pouches for my keys were some of my first purchases!! Sadly there's a lot of unscrupulous tea-leaves out there.. :/

I also have multiple levels of home security.. including a 50kg Rhodesian Ridgeback.

This week i shot over to CM tuning and had Chris remove, gut, and refit the stock cats, to my mostly stock exhaust (bar the Scorpion res downpipes)... great work by as always by CM and i have to say, the noise isn't *too* bad. Sounds pretty normal put-putting round town, but defo a barky rasp under wide open throttle :) Major bonus now i can sleep at night knowing that i now wont damage the engine with blocked cats when giving it the beans.

I also bought the ECS grille accents from Awesome for £230.. rec'd and faffed around trying to fit them for hours, gave up and sent them back for a full refund. Utter rubbish fit and quality, twisted and would not sit flush on the car - very disappointing from ECS given the price!

Hi goose,
Liking your build, very similar in what I’m looking to get done with mine bar the tuning, will keep her stock as much as possible. Mine’s a 2012 avant B8.5
I’ve been looking at the Scorpion resonated down pipes, mated to the stock centre and back box … how do you find the sound with the Scorpion?
Also, with the gutted stock cats - what have you done to replace or haven’t replaced? I’m thinking about pre-emptive measures
Cheers

Thanks chap - its still a work in progress, but funds dictate the speed of mods!!

When i picked my S4 up Sept last year the stock downpipes were rattling, so the dealer agreed to pay for new ones, and was super happy when i told him that Scorpion were cheaper than OEM Audi ones.. so that was mod one done, and cost me nothing :) Sound wise, they are almost exactly the same as stock.

As for the cats.. they are a constant worry for any B8/8.5 owner, and knowing the way i drive and my mod plans, i investigated all options.... i went for CM Tuning removing, gutting, refitting the stock cats, then coding and map tweaking.. so as to have no check engine lights.

I did this as if id didn't like the noise, i could then potentially add back in some hi-flo cats into the Scorpion downpipes to quieten it back down again...

As it stands, it sounds a touch louder on cold start.. then quiets down to normal, and putting round town its very tame.

Wide open throttle tho, there is rasp.. and i mean like an old E46 M3 with stock exhaust rasp. Very Jekyll and Hyde. I may in future get the rest of the Scorpion system to see if it deepens the tone. But TBH, its very livable.. I'm 47 and I've done loud exhausts for decades.. this is the best of both worlds :)

cheers
