I started a similar thread to this on the 8v S3 forum many moons ago for a bit of a laugh and it still proves popular. Seeing as we are all a bit bonkers, we probably all share the same fears of leaving our babies in car parks……..personally it fills me with dread and I do everything I can to park somewhere out of the way. There is then nothing more annoying to come back and find someone has parked next to you! Strange but true. Anyway, let’s see your defensive parking pictures. I’ll kick off with my favourite spot whenever I stay in a particular place.

Love that space, but my fear would be bird poop or tree sap from the overhanging tree ;-)

Thankfully not me, but funny all the same. That's what you call protection :applaus:

I know but lesser of 2 evils. Can easily deal with trees or birds.

Cracking colour pal. Gonna look a million dollars once it's back from the detailers!

So if I do say so myself, had a moment of ‘genius’ this morning (Jeremy Clarkson voice on the word!!). Either that or pure luck. Knew I would have to venture into an Asda car park today, the thought of which being the stuff of nightmares. Anyway, found this handy little space at the end of the row of wider disabled spaces. Miles from the shop, but that’s not important :)

I worry even about spaces like this, which I guess are relatively good. I then see what @Spinstorm has to deal with and I start to wonder if I’ve got a problem! Generally, I just don’t like parking next to anyone.

Yeah! Some days it's like playing car Tetris but at least I know the sides are safe!

Imagine having this doodle do doing this near you.

Everything that gets car enthusiasts a bad name.

The RS3 is an amazing car but you are all too precious about it.

I don’t seek out tight spaces but if I have no alternative I’ll park between cars. I certainly would never drive across the car park looking for an empty corner or park half on grass…

It’s not just our RS3 I use that spot for or any other where I choose wisely. My Polo sits in that spot most days and uses the same corner spot at Tesco every visit. I just don’t trust people to be decent.

The way I see it the left car in your pic had to hit your car to get out. You may have been lucky but I would never take the chance personally.

Better inspect car before leaving
Good luck proving any damage was caused by a certain car parked in a car park, even if it’s obvious who did the damage you’d never prove it. And the police aren’t going to be interested.

This is a very healthy and balanced attitude. Unfortunately, many of us on here are a little unhinged when it comes to normal things like car parking spaces :p

Unhinged lol, it’s the potential big bill from having a dent / scratch etc sorted out, if a dent can’t be done via a removal specialist then it’s a nightmare having a car sprayed, as generally it’s going to have to be blended onto the panels either side, in my experience not cheap to be done correctly.

Plus not everyone will buy a car that’s had paint, even if for ‘genuine’ reasons.

It’s always someone else’s stupidity that costs a careful owner.

It's also worth noting that for car enthusiasts that are careful with a fairly crappy car in the past, being over protective caring for the most expensive car you've ever owned, like me, is automatic.

For me it's not an rs3 thing, it's a looking after your possessions thing, I'll always park between the lines but in the best space available and have done in every car I've owned. Door dings are not pretty and they never come out like new.

Tongue in cheek, but wasn't it you going on about wanting to PPF/protect the gloss black gear switch surround for fear of swirls?
