Ruined then! Still says black on DVLA website too. Maybe it’s just me, and I do understand the customisation thing, BUT not on a brand new car. At most wrap it surely?

A few months ago too, then selling it, hmmmm

For brand new Vorsprung money too. Residuals on that will really suffer. Also wonder if they bothered with ADAS calibration etc after the paint job.

if you not remove any sensors from its place and just disconnect there is big chance you dont have to do any calibration

I find it unbelieveable that some one would repaint a brand new car, having painted more cars than I care to think about the challenges of preparing and getting the paint into some of the harder area's of the cars bodywork is not something I would like to do, even changing the colour of a secondhand door is very time consuming to get it right and by right I mean bring it back after a year or two and see just how much has lifted/fallen off from those impossible to get at area's.

Even getting every component/clip/bracket back in the correct place takes some doing

Stupid, of course IMHO

As an eg of just what is involved in painting a car and what you end up left with,

I had a brand new TTRS which kept filling the boot up with water, I traced it eventually to the rear side window bonding having a 'missing' bit about an inch long, water would run in and pool in front of the rear wheel arch and the moment you accelerated it all shot over the wheel arch into the boot.

I spoke to the Audi body shop, he explained all the rivets for the door trim that passed behind the rear window and over the door frame (in roof) would need drilling out and the rivet heads would be impossible to get out and may rattle in the future etc etc, at that point I bought a tube of Sikaflex, warmed and dried everything up and blindly injected it behind the window, job done :)

Stunning. Bet you were really careful about that high kerb in front of you
First attempt I left about 1m thinking I was close!! Seen many a car catch that kerb/low wall over the years.

But of both. Correction after lowering however the scope of adjustment on these from the factory is huge, so playing around at the moment.

I tried to get my alignment checked, albeit at Kwik Fit and Tyre Spot (local kwik fit type place). Neither would touch it, said it can only be main dealer as all of the driver assistance systems need recalibrating. Interested to know if anything was said to you / what assistance features come on the carbon black, adaptive cruise etc.

It is true some places can’t do it yet, however just as many can. Nothing needs recalibrated and adaptive cruise works just as it should.

Good to know!

I’m guessing it’s one of those ‘should’ rather than ‘must’. Just searched again and seems pretty universal recommendation to do an ADAS recalibration after lowering, alignment etc. Guessing it’s probably the same as recalibrating the mag ride, again you should be don’t really need to.

Interesting that guy at kwik fit told me it was mean dealer only but looks like they have a number of centres that actually offer it, again not that they’re my go to and shouldn’t be surprised at getting duff advice from them!

Any one can 'check it' I can check mine with my Dunlop traking gauges and a ball of fishing wire plus a smart level (or phone app that will do the same degree measurement) as said, getting it to all calibrate in with the driver aids and ecu's is the bit I think I would put it into Audi to sort, not sure I would trust just anyone with that?

When i do Mag ride calibration on the 8V i also carry out a basic setting of the headlights, when a cars been lowered the systems need to know this.........Audi don't just throw these cars together and hope for the best.

I totally get that, but I'm also curious why you'd ever need a calibration for just a geometry adjustment/check? Provided it's not being lowered, obviously.

Not for alignment, lowering From what I’ve seen on 8V’s then yes.

VW Golf originally had the radar detector in the lower grille like our RS3, apparently they went out of calibration if you nudged a kerb when parking hence they moved it to behind the VW badge on later 7.5 models, a friend had a Mk7 he had quite a lot of trouble getting VW to calibrate it correctly, they kept saying it was OK but it kept failing on him.

Most cars do go out of spec slightly depending on how they are used and how the bushes 'settle'

Have you ever found that a car wont calibrate on the mag ride through just being too low?

No not on the ones I’ve seen.

Most have Eibach though.

There are a few I’ve seen with MSS / Racingline which don’t seem to suit the 8V in terms of handling, comfort etc.

I had one guy who removed the racingline springs even after calibration because he just couldn’t get on with them, he put Eibach on then came back and we calibrated everything again, he said it was totally different experience for him = night vs day.

We did an experiment once, by zeroing the mag ride values in the controller, then went for a drive, the car was truly shocking going over bumps / rough ground…..

Gorgeous looking really like the aluminium trim and them wheels together....pssst @8YARWY had a little help so mums the word ok lol

Lol….. that Syncro application is an experience in itself, but it’s good to get tips from a man with more experience than I.

Speaking of which, first wash coming up this weekend.

So the standard car hasn't got the internal black headlight enclosures hence the tint this will diminish light to the road though

And apparently, if you believe the experts, it’s not an RS car without Matrix headlights……

Some of the comments about different spec cars on 8Y owners groups are just plain pathetic Willy waving……..

Fairy is the way to strip the paint of contaminates before coating.

It I'll wear it down eventually but it would take a multitude of washes for it to start diminishing... yours being a 2 coat ceramic even more

Lol no mate I’m on about before the Syncro was applied, it’s a way of getting everything off the lacquer….
If someone was too tight to buy Prep / eraser etc….
