S4

I've had mine nearly a year and it still excites me every time I strap myself in!
The only bit I don't love is being on first name terms with the attendants at the local petrol station!!
A small price to pay though for such a cracking motor(IMHO)!!

p.s-get some pics up!!
p.p.s-spec? colour? plans?etc.etc

Just what are the running cost like then?
I've just bought 1.8T S-line so I'm not looking to buy now, however I was planning to make it my next car.. What is the real world mpg etc?

I wonder what the fuel consumption comparison of an S4 would be against an A4 if they did the 4.2 V8 TDI (out of the Q7)... 340bhp stock and 400bhp remapped plus BUCKETLOADS of torque in either guise....

edit: I can't remember who (qtrojames?), but somebody said their local mechanic nearly had ktitens when he said heanted to port a 3.0TDI into his 2.5TDI Quattro that had blown.... but I wonder if the 4.2 would go in there?!?

Lol yeah it was me! I thinkhis biggest concern was probably my budget, or lack of it! I'm sure it could be done with the right level of investment, I have thought about this before, a 4.2 TDi :moa:

On a recent 800 mile round trip from manchester-inverness-manchester I averaged 23mpg.

My normal average over 40 odd hours was at 19.9 mpg (2nd screen on the DIS before resetting for inverness)

The worst I've ever achieved is a full tank gone in 65 miles!...around the 5 mpg mark if my sums are correct!

65 miles feck me thats thirsty. I'd love one but not the petrol costs

but you've gotta love the sound of the V8 ;)

65 miles to a full tank... 65 MILES TO A FULL TANK! I take it you were driving flat out everywhere?

How many miles would you usually get from a full tank if driving normally?

65 MILES! :scared2: You must have been having one hell of a good time :racer:

I have my AMD stage 3 B6 S4 for 5 years. I did Vmax days, loads of track days, lots of thrashing up and down the alps and many laps of the Nurburgring......and I never got it down to 65 miles!!

The lowest I ever had it was actually on a day when I had to drive to work in London. On the commute how I averaged 9mpg due to continous stop start. Even doing that for a full tank would have had me at 110miles for a tank.

How did you lose a tank full in 65miles ??????

Id say there has got to be something wrong with your motor if you managed to Kill a full tank in only 65miles - Thats shocking!

Maybe something wrong with the gearbox... like only 1st and 2nd available?

Or maybe his is turbo'd that would guzzle fuel....

I knwo the S4 is a much heavier car, even when I was thrashing a Corvette C6 (LS3 - 6.2 V8) that I had as a rental I was averaging 6mpg... so that would be >80miles on a 14.5 gallon tank)...

hey - I saw a really sweet looking 51 plate B6 RS4 avant at Fontain - what was the spec on those? Looked the nuts! The B6 S4's are 340bhp NA 4.2 V8's right?

I get about 235 miles from a full tank at todays pump prices a full tank is about £59, thats commuting to work on a short stretch of motorway the rest very hard driven country A road

Love mine to bits, had it a year, runs best on Tesco 99 RON, becomes a bit sedate if you arent thrashing it constantly. Heavy car so you have to realise its going to get left for the first 20 yds by lots of stuff at the traffic lights until the momentum builds up then its happy days :)

B6 RS4? Did you mean that or was it a project build?

His S4 is the V8 edition - hence No turbo but by sounds of it, has a Big hole in the tank!ha

The B5 RS4 is a monster, 2.7 V6 Bi-Turbo = Rapid as ****!
The last ones were on a 51 plate IIRC around 340 - 360Bhp I think.
B6 Didnt make an RS4 - which is a ****** shame...
Why take away the Turbo on the B6 S4's aswell...

I did a double-take at the "R", but yes, I meant that: 51 plate, I'm 90% sure it was a B6, definitely RS4 badge on back and front grill and certainly looked like it was all OEM....

By the time I realised what I'd just walked past, I was glancing back at it at an angle, through the glass with the Fontain chappy 20yds ahead of me, so no time to pop back and stare properly... I guess it might have been a B5, but sure the front headlights were a lot straighter than the B5's....

Nice cars nice power too juicy for my liking.

The Feul prices seem to be escalating more trips to the pumps:whistle2:

possibly the best time of my life!! lol

It was on the A82 between Fort william and Inverness in Scotland

I was 4 up with a boot full of camping gear so was prob a couple of hundred kilo above normal weight.

Full tank (of v-power) at fort william and the light was back on before inverness!

The road is absolutely awesome with bend after bend for 65 miles as it snakes along the shore line of loch ness. If you look it up on google earth/maps, all will become clear!

I were flat out for most of it (revs barely dropped below 4 thou) with Quite a few overtakes in second gear.

i averaged 22mpg bang on with my S4's . . . great cars, cant fault them, my mistake was having an RS 6 BEFORE I had an S4. . . the S4 just never had enough power, when in reality it had more than enough, but compared to an RS 6 it feels slow

If it was defo B6 shape then it wasnt an RS4!

What they should have done is an Edition of the B6 and put the Bi-turbo'd engine in that....

Hello all, first post but had my S4 2 weeks now and am also loving it, not seen an average of more than 16mpg. Maybe down to new car syndrome? But still worth it, got the Milltek cat back fitted last week - now it sounds like a proper V8.

I had a B5 S4 and i found it a lot quicker than the B6 4.2 v8
the B5 was not standard thou
it would also average 24 mpg
it was a fantastic car :beerchug:

:bye:

I will, but I've got to go away for 4 weeks tomorow and leave it in the hands of the missus :bye:........if its still in one peice when I get back pics will follow. 3rd Audi on the trot now and by far my favourite.

What is different about the RS6 engine to make is so much quicker? Such a shame the B6 hasn't a turbo!

The RS6 has 2 turbo's whereas the S4 dont hence why the RS6 is rapid compared to the S4! The RS6's come around 450bhp standard too...

Yes, I've gone through a full tank (and more) on a track day a few times, I think the average was about 7MPG...... so 65 a tank is about right?? But not on the road, unless it was everywhere in 1st and 2nd.........!!

So heres me thinking that maybe, just maybe I'll think about buying an RS6 in the next couple of years - a chance to drive and own a car with real power before children come along etc....

However, after a brief conversation with my local mechanic he informed me to be careful with that thought as they replaced the rear springs and shocks on an RS6 recently an the owner picked up a bill of £2000+! He also went on to say that a set of front disks and pads will set you back £1600....

Thats that thought out the window then! Are the S4's as bad - Servicing etc?

I he was defo having a good time that road is awsome im up and down it quite alot in my S4 mainly the stretch Inverness to Fort Augustus where relatives live and what a great drive twisty and bendy car sticks to the road like glue!but ive never had 65 miles to a tank yet!!The other road on other ide of Loch ness is pretty good fun to but its mostly single track with twists bends bumps and some good humps really good fun if its quiet!!

So what's the most likely average mileage you S4 guys are getting out of a 'normal' tank i.e. a good spirited drive, commute, etc etc? About 250miles?

Yeah, I used to get anywhere between 220-240miles on general drives, didn't change much. Managed to get 280 once...

What's the RS4 like for fuel then? :eyebrows:

I average around 20mpg (230ish miles to the tank)
when i went to watch the motogp at donny last week i managed an average of 28mpg (over 300 miles to the tank)
so not that bad...

i average about 250 miles to the tank but to be honest the car only does 6-7000 a year mileage wise so it isnt that bad FOR SO MUCH FUN:arco:

Alot better actually. Smaller tank I think, more bhp/ft lbs too.

Generally get c280/tank = c25mpg. On a longer more sedate drive I'm sure that'll nudge 30mpg. Will find out this weekend, on the drive up to MRC on Saturday and Audi's in the Park on Sunday...

:box:

Flippin heck, faster and more fuel efficient!! So how's the drive compared to the S4? Miss anything from the B6 shape or is everything about the B5 RS4 better? Is it noticeably smaller inside?
