Interesting to see, but wait till we all have to carry an I.D card.

It will then be "Show me your papers, your papers are not in order". Sounds similar to something that happened in Europe more than 50 years ago.

Yeah, but to be honest if you're going to be an awkward ******* about it then expect them to get a bit narked. All he had to do was give his details, get them checked and be done with it. No need to be a tosser about it...

"I do not concent to this arrest..." the wholw point of an arrest is that you don't have a choice in the matter.

Awkward? So are you happy with the police taking down and keeping your details on record simply because you want to take some photos? I thought he was perfectly decent about it.

Yeah but to be fair, why should he even have to give his name and address to be checked out. He's just taking a few photos and then he has to have a police check done on him.
It escalated because from the sound of it the cops were making up reasons for him appearing dodgy as they went along, just so they would win the argument.

Ok, so lets say he gives his details, the checks come back clear. They let him go, as they said they would.
He could still be a terrorist, but with a clean record who is just planning his first attack.
If they really believed he was a danger then take him in from the off, don't muck about with on the spot police checks.

They knew he wasn't anti-social or a terrorist, but they started it and didn't want to be seen as backing down and admitting their initial mistake.

Anyway, it's all the PSO's fault if you ask me. She kicked it all off.

If i've been doing nothing wrong and have nothing to hide then yeah, I can't see a problem. would have been a two minute job and he wouldn't have had any nore problems. Notice how his companion who eventually gave his details was allowed to carry on his merry way and not have to go to the cells for 8 hours.

I agree it was a bit dubious stopping him in the first place for taking photos, but then his refusal to give his details probably made them think he had something to hide, as anyone would.

Well some people feel that they have a right to do things without being questioned for it. If you're happy to have your time wasted, be checked up on the police computer and details taken to be stored when you've clearly done nothing wrong then that's up to you, but I have a little more self respect.

Check out the other news video linked on that page though, I saw it a while back. The girl was a bit of an **** to be fair but she didn't deserve to be treated that way.

People pay taxes, and on that i think you can take pictures of the local town's christmas celebrations. There was a good reason for him to be taking pictures. If it was a normal day and he was taking pctures of people and they didnt like it then yeah maybe the officers would have some reason to check, but for god sake it was christmas and he was taking pics of the activities going on around. I thought he was being decent too and he doesnt need to be checked for everything he does. Stupid law, this is becoming pathetic. I understand anti terrorism becoming a big thing since being attacked but it doesnt mean accusing everybody.

I was going to add in my original post that, i assume someone would mention "well if he had done as he was told" , or "if you have nothing to hide" but thats not the point.

Police powers and vague Parliamentary laws are a great way to suppress the general public behind fear, nothing was going to happen, he wasn't being anti social, he wasn't a terrorist. You are more likely to die of Asthma or diabeties than a terrorist atack or have your kids grabbed, but terrorist and Pedo fear is the order of the day!

I think Charlie Brooker understands the level of fear that we live in. lol

Good on him for standing up for himself, I bet the Police weren't expecting that.

I appreciate he was taking photos, but really in Central London as an example, how many thousands of people/tourists take photos, does that mean every single one of them is going to be stopped and questioned??

Suspiciously taking photos in an anti social way???

C'mon really now???

They may as well have said to him, we are stopping you, coz you have a rear light out!!
