Hi all, I have a request /favour to ask you, does anybody have illuminated cupholer and coin tray in their B6, (when i say illuminated i mean that the front symbol has a backlight like the heater vent rollers), if anyone does i wonder if you would be so kind as to see if you could get the part number off them as i am trying to order some but myself nor pjmspeedy can find part numbers.
Any help with this will be greatfuly recieved,
Thanks in antcipation
Matt

are they meant to light up then

Some do, i have seen them on german e-bay but no part number, there is someone on here who has them but for the love of god i can't remember who

I've seen this on B5's but never on B6's - did it definitely make it across the model transition?

Part numbers ive found these have the chrome line in them too ,

8E1 862 534 L - Cup Holder
8E1 941 561 E - Cards Holder
8E1 927 134 B - ESP Switch - Since they have a chrome line you may want to replace this too.

Hmm I have the interior light pack and my cup and card holder icon's are not illuminated
Allways thought this looked a little odd.
Are the part numbers the same for Cabriolet, as the Saloon and Avant models have a differant centre console top section

Dan

dan, i think they still fit from a saloon etc though mate, same parts just a different layout.

mark macquilin on the a3 section did his illuminated as did a few others they were available from vagparts before they departed.
there once was a detailed write up on how to mod your own with an led into each facia, worth a search.

Has anyone ever seen a B6 with these actually fitted?

The infomation i now have is the ones found are B7 ones, same as B6 ones only with the chrome strip on them, they are not cheap but hopefuly will do mine towards the end of the month or sooner if i sell mt ally roof rails.

i think mine are illuminated my card holder is cause when it comes out the light fades as the led doesnt come with it

Here is some info on another A4/B6 forum I posted some time ago..........

Both the coin holder and cup holder illumination works in the same way. At the back of the respective items there is a small plastic rectangular clip-on box containing 2x red LED's with a 2pin (0.1" pitch) electrical connector. Connecting 12v to this gives the illumination to the LED module. This red LED light is then transferred to the front of the unit by means of a fibre-optic conductor - it's a strip of thin perspex. At the front of the unit, i.e. where the white icon is, there is another fibre-optic conductor that picks up the light and carries the light through 90degrees to the back of the icon - they must have spent millions developing this!

Is your unit compatible for illumination?
Check to see if there is the LED module on the back of the respective unit - if YES - wire it up and have a beer!

If not, then I'm afraid it's off to the stealers or fleabay

!

Can't I add the LED module?
The LED module does actually detach, but it has no part number. I have scanned the Official Audi parts database (EKTA7) and there is no mention of it specifically for these items - you would also require the fibre-optic conductor.

Now I did take an LED module and a fibre-optic strip from a fleabay donar coin holder and managed to install it into my lightless unit - HOWEVER, the front icon was very dim on my original tray unit - it transpires that my lightless unit did not have the icon illumination fibreoptic strip directly behind it - just air. This was again confirmed by removing the donar coin tray and installing into my own housing. It now illuminates brilliantly.

On the part list "cup holder" page, there is an item named "fibre-optic conductor", part no. 8E0 857 355, priced at £6.15+VAT. My parts guys at Audi knew nothing about these items and where they are used?? If this is the LED module and fibre-optic strip it may work although not 100% since the back of the icon lacks an illumination strip which can't be added to the already glued fronts of the respective units.

If you are looking to buy a donar/replacement unit off fleabay ask the seller the question - "Does the coin/cup-holder have a small led module at the back of the unit with a 2-pin electrical connector?"

Also beware that other Audi models use different coin holders and I beleive cup holders, make sure you buy a specific A4 unit. (These items are also RHD, hence the 8E2 part number prefix.)
Audi part numbers:
Cup holder: 8E2 862 534 J5 PR @ £22.39+VAT (based on 15/08/2008)
Coin Holder: 8E2 941 561 C5 PR @ £26.05+VAT
(based on 15/08/2008)

Fleabay "A4 Cup Holders" are rare, let alone illuminated - I did actually give into the dealer "Cup Holder" part and after looking for 3 months on Fleabay - I had a weak moment!

Some dealers will tell you they have never been illuminated....... here are some pictures of mine anyway!

Right quick update on this, i removed the cupholder and coin tray and hey presto the cupholder has the led module:hubbahubba: but the coin tray doesen't:crying: so added a couple of wires ready to connect to the vent rollers, checked with a 12v supply and BINGO, cup icon illuminated:icon_thumright:

Mines the other way, cupholder, yes, coin tray, no.

Informative post Woorlord :icon_thumright:

Now I have something else I didn't even know I wanted .....

According to Elsawin it's a radio out job - and also requires special tool 3370 (although I'm sure this can be overcome).

EDIT: Radio only needs to come out 50mm so not too bad....

As I recall there are a couple of sprung notches in the top of the respective assemblies that need a little push from a small flat screwdriver and they then slide out.
The coin tray and housing also houses the ESP button.
Pull off the top cap trim between the vents and the assemblies to get to the notches - Item 2.

The radio needs to be pulled out a little way, as Quattrojames says ~ 50mm.

.

I have the old non-illuminated units in the garage in a single DIN cage - will take a few pictures later and post the notch positions.

Great pic and again spot on once trim is removed you just poke a small flathead screwdriver in the holes in the top of the dinn cage and they pop out, it will be obvious when you have the trim off

Just compared the cup holder and they are a slightly differant shape, the cabs are squared off on the top outer while the saloon has a a rounded top outer edge dunno about the coin holder though. dunno if its the same set up on the saloon ie has the esp switch to the right of it.

Would appreciate the part numbers for the cab model if anyone has them

They are easy to remove from the cab you just open the sunglasses cubby hole above it press the two tabs and pull that out then you can reach behind the cup/coin holder and push them out.

I'm hoping to give this mod a go if I have the right coin tray and cup holder,

but ......

Could someone show me exactly where I put the screwdriver to release the coin and cup holder

Tried to take them out tonight and it's dark so that's my excuse

Yeah it must be rare my A4

Hi all I had issue with coin tray sticking on my cabriolet. Slightly different you have to remove the tray above first to access tabs on coin tray . Really easy flip the top lid 1st and you will see two tabs which need prising down no force needed and the whole units slides out.this exposes the top tabs on the card/coin tray which require prising down again with no great force and the unit will come out. Found coin at back stuck. Just to note if buying replacement part on eBay there is a depth difference with front cover from an A4 compared to a cabriolet- they are deeper

How did you transfer both fibre optic strips into the new cupholder? I can't seem to remove mine!
