I had a very similar fault which turned out to be a broken wire between the door pillar and the door. There are a bunch of wires inside a rubber convoluted boot that connects door to body by hinges.
It maybe worth checking. I pulled the boot back from body so I could see wires and one yellow...
I had exactly same noise. I got to thinking it may be something serious in cylinder head. However I bought a new "shift rod" as audi called it. Only £68 ! Fitted it tonight and silence is restored. It's hard to believe it can make such a racket. It must accentuated by the hollow plastic...
I ask because I had a similar thing my 4 new tyres had only done a few hundred miles but I swapped them over from a mates car and the noise was gone. 4 new non directional low noise rating tyres fitted and all quiet
I would say it is the fan units themselves. The main fan has internal controls and also commands the ac fan.
If there is power to the plug that goes to fan it is highly likely it is internal electronics in main fan.
I had same probs with my a3 3.2 , they started staying on at odd times for a...
It maybe the sender unit it is located in bottom hose outlet on the radiator. Cheap to replace. Check wiring plug is connected to it. As you stand looking at engine bay it is at bottom right hand side of the radiator. Mine has no engine cover underneath so i just jack it up front passenger side...
I had this on my 3.2 sport it clunked liked something hitting as it went over drain cover or uneven surface. I replaced both front arms which cured it. The culprit was the alloy bodied rear lower control arm bush was worn out but i couldnt spot it by usual means , pry bar etc. only once it was...
The blowing noise could be a blocked breather valve which is inside and part of the valve cover. It is directly below the oil filler cap... Just another idea
That doesn't sound too healthy on video . I've got a 3.2 aswell. It does sound like mine did when chain had stretched. But the noise I had was louder at the gearbox end down near clutch and rattled all the time hot or cold.
The change over valve varies the length of the inlet gasses travel to...
Mine was doing the same. At slow speeds if I went over some uneven drive it would clunk quite harshly. I replaced both lower control arms complete with new ball joints and rear bush. When I took it apart it was the wear in the main bush at the rear of the arm causing the clank where it mounts...
Hi Simon sorry but to be honest I'm not sure I want to do it again. It's a lot of work. I took it of the road for two weeks and did it in spare time as the whole front end has to come off. Obviously doing it for the first time is always a steep learning curve but even so it took me 2 nights just...
It's perfectly normal for this to happen as the engine actually gets hotter for a while after its switched off. the ecu requests the fans to continue operate for a few mins to prevent this excess heat to protect the engine.
However I've got a 3.2 Quattro with twin fans that went kaput by...
I spent months and many pounds trying to sort droning noise on my 3.0 sport Quattro avant only to find out it was all due to my tyres even tho they were all matched and good tread. Down to the tyre pattern apparently on mine.
My 3.2 Quattro had same knocking over uneven surface/drain covers etc. Replace lower wishbones problem solved. Peace again. I bought arms complete with both bushes/mounts and ball joints. Took about half an hour a side :-)
The transfer box sits at the rear of the engine. It is bolted to gearbox housing and has a mounting bracket bolting it to the block.... Could this be loose in some way.
Does the engine twist too much when revved .... Could be the dogbone shaped bush/bracket worn if it does.
Both of these may...
