**UPDATE** It was in fact a bad starter motor, he changed it today and it starts fine, but I'll see in the morning. With regards to the shaking one of the injectors is misfiring and 3 glow plugs are bad. I will get them changed at the end of the month and let you all know whether it has solved...

did your engine shake considerably on idle? I think this is the issue, but i'll let you know what they say over the weekend.

thanks, ive had someone tell me this may as well be the starter motor pulley, the clonk seems to come from that area.. i dont want to waste any more money, so i want to be sure what it is. The shake is usually after the car is warm :/

Thanks for this, this sounds pretty realistic! I'll have it looked over the weekend. with regards to the flywheel, the engine shakes quite a bit, adding to the starter problem he 'diagnosed' it as the flywheel.. but it still shakes! looks like ill be going back there!
