Just an update on this , I removed the amp unplugged the large multi pin plug plugged it back in and Hey presto the whole system fires back into life again. Result , moral of the story when going on massive road trip take the handbook and some basic hand tools !

I had a look at the fuse box yesterday there is a row e but it’s completely empty , not even any fuse holders in it ! Will use my Bluetooth speaker until I get home Thanks guys

I ended up buying a pure digital radio for the car , it also allows you to stream music from your phone . I do t have an aux socket in the car but it tunes into a spare fm station on the Audi system , there is a slight drop in audio quality but it's not too bad
