    Pain in the *** but I think it’s necessary. Good shout . Will have to wait for it to cool down so probably a job over the weekend. Got a ‘67 Mustang being delivered tomorrow so it’s gonna be a fun weekend of tinkering.

    S3. Just changed my plugs with NGK Iridium; checked the gaps and tightened to the correct torque. Engine started up fine but has an almost imperceptible pop occasionally from the exhaust which I’m assuming is due to unburnt fuel so it’s making me think about what it could be. Anyone...

    Sure, many diesel cars don’t have glow plugs but if they are there it’s probably for a reason. I’m not an expert and not claiming to be, but a bad glow plug can certainly lead to engine knocking, which was my initial thought - unlikely, as I said, but not impossible for it to be the cause...

    Incomplete or lack of combustion on a cylinder will definitely cause a noise if that were the problem.

    I work as an electronics engineer and it seems this way to me too. If the car was initially turned on before the damage was discovered, there's a chance it's shorted and damaged a board.

    Could it be something as simple as the glow plugs? Would make sense for why it happens while cold but goes away when warm.

    Only thing I could think of is a relay stuck in contact, and when the battery has drained the contact has been released so it's not drained the next time you've had it on. Strange one either way.

    Not sure on S3 in particular but engine coolant is usually pushed through a heater core for fans to extract hot air from when the heating is on, so if you've had a cooling light come on and you're getting poor heating that definitely points to a problem. Coolant is usually about 90°C when...
