If everything is still original from factory, worn/stretched cam chain, low oil pressure on idle and worn out engine mounts. Maybe bad alternator pulley clutch. The regular TFSi problems. Burning smell could you be road salt burning on exhaust or oil leak dripping on exhaust and burning off.
You don't need to loosen the wire, but you most likely need a special tool for winding or turning the pistons back in. They can't be pushed, they need to be turned.
If your rear brakes are heating up while driving it's either hand brake actuating lever not returning fully, caliber sliding pins...
JT, can you please post couple more pictures of your side skirts? A side picture taken from skirt level would be nice. And if possible a picture how they look underneath. Can you still use the original sill lifting points?
Change the sensor first or check the water temp with VCDS. FSI engines don't need nearly as much of enrichment as older engines needed. I don't think the thermostat is your problem. Cold start map is temperature and also time dependant. It won't stay on cold start map for more than minute or two.

The thing I can't understand is that even without any adjustments for wheel alignment other than toe, even the camber values are still the same from side to side...
I have the same problem with my A3. No signs of accidents, body panels have even fit, tracking is spot on, doesn't pull left or right, no uneven tyre wear. I can't find anything wrong except the wheel poke is different from side to side.
Did you have the VAG T40080 tool bit or just general polydrive/ribe bit? I've tried three different ribe tool sets, one fit but broke before the bolt even moved and bits from next two different sets did not fit at all. Now I'm waiting for the T40080 type tool. It seems that the bolt just looks...
I bought a lemon... 2005 AXX TFSI with everything breaking down. The information comes from my own experience except the worn balance shafts. I've taken apart and fixed my own engine and helped others to do it.
The squirters have a ball and spring valve in them. The springs go weak and break...
