Changing the timing sorted this out.
You can actually adjust the timing quite easily by vcds and removing the timing belt cover then undoing the 3 bolts and levering the other bolt with a screwdriver. With my timing advanced slightly to 3.4 degrees,it uses much less fuel. You can see...

Does anyone know how to repair or replace the plastic catch that's broken securing the driver's arm rest lid compartment. I don't want to have to go to the dealers for this...has anyone managed to repair it? It's held with an elastic band at the moment so ideally something more refined!

I get 44 mpg ...mine's the 130 bhp...It's not as good as some, but it's not sooo bad. But the engine is so smooth....and the gearbox too. I still can do 1 finger gear changes! These cars are built so well. I doubt i'll have any other type of car again!
It's amazing the difference they make and like you say 4 x 4s can be left standing! I'm going to try and get a spare set of alloys so i can swap each year without balancing , etc. Anyone got any cheap 16" alloys for sale?
