    Car shaking when idling

right... fixed my oil pump drive shaft at ring engineering in hayes, seems to be fine. vibration still there, that was not the cause. will take the car to a proper mechanic one day to get some advice. if car is not worth fixing (whatever the issue might be), I'll just sell it and buy a newer...

    Cambelt interval

first, modern belts are not what they used to be, they can last ages. besides, it's very uncommon for the belt to snap, it's very uncommon. most problems as a result of not replacing the belt on time are due to other parts, like the tensioner. I think if you replace it every 100000 miles, you...

Any one used "Drive the deal" etc to order their new car?

I'm in a dilemma. Went for carwow eventually. I got £6000 off for scrapping the diesel and an additional £4520 from the dealer. I can get a brand new A4 2.0 TDI Ultra (150hp) with seat heating and lumbar support for just £20500... This is without negotiating, so I'll take the quote around and...

Any one used "Drive the deal" etc to order their new car?

Old topic, I know, but I have a question. My old B8 broke down and I was looking at repairing (or having it repaired), but then I found out about the diesel scrappage scheme that gives you up to £8000 for your old diesel if you buy a brand new car. I would've never considered a brand new car...

    increasing idle vibration

initially the low engine oil light came up, which is why I drove another 2 miles until I found a safe spot. I had this light before and it was indeed little oil in the engine, had to top up a bit (nothing extreme, just your occasional top up). I switched the engine off, checked the oil dip stick...

    increasing idle vibration

not the oil pump, the shaft driving the oil pump. at least that's my theory. it fails under normal circumstances, just by driving the car. keep in mind I was at 137k miles, which is not little. I'll know more when I actually take the pump assembly out, if I manage to do it.

    increasing idle vibration

I didn't replace the alternator pulley, but was on my to-do list as I know it causes issues. Regarding my problem, I'm confused. Spoke to fire engineering yesterday, £650 to do the work. That's if turbo and main bearings are food. If turbo gone, another couple of hundred. If main bearings are...

2.0 TDI oil pump / balance shaft failure?

Unfortunately they do. According to some stories, they only fixed the problem on later engines, starting 2010...

2.0 TDI oil pump / balance shaft failure?

Engine still running well, but yes, I turned it off quickly. Drove 2 miles to find a parking space, as I was on a busy road, but had green flag take me home and didn't start the engine ever since. I've been told by many people no damage can occur in 2 miles, especially since I'm using duralube...

    increasing idle vibration

I'min London but I found these guys in Hayes, about half an hour from me: http://www.ring-engineering.co.uk/vag-vw-audi-2-0-tdi-oil-pump-repair Still waiting for a quote. Thoughts? If it wasn't for the subframe, I would've done it myself...

    increasing idle vibration

right, I printed out the relevant pages. everything is sweet and simple and I have all the tools, until I get to removing the subframe... now there are 2 things: the subframe and the brace connecting to the subframe. the brace is easy to get off and as far as I can tell, the brace is the only...

    increasing idle vibration

I do have the timing tools, as I changed the timing a while ago. I have threebond gasket silicone, which I used before in many vehicles and is the only thing I trust. I have a torque wrench and all the required sockets, but I'm not sure how tight the subframe bolts have to be, I might need to...

    increasing idle vibration

I understand, it makes sense now. The only problem is getting the subframe off. I thought it was a matter of removing the oil sump. Does the suspension need to come off?
