I've just spoke to the specialist and it's not to do with component protection, the software was called SRC which has some kind of connection back to somewhere that can remove the protection. The module just can't be talked with/flashed for some reason.

So this can only be carried out by Audi themselves? The specialist I had to look at this had some kind of US software on a heavy duty android tablet, I'm not sure exactly what the software was, but apparently ODIS. Thanks for the reply - I did have a specialist have a go at this with ODIS? which is the Audi dealers software right? This returned the same error, do you think it would be worth purchasing another module that doesn't have protection activated?

Hi Nessy, I've just removed and check the plugs on the Single Xeon Headlight, Original Halogen Headlights and the plug coming from my car. The plug seems to be missing a pin as the Xeon headlight has all the pins but the halogen has the same pin missing. See below:
