    Thanks for the responses. I hadn't thought about the HPI and MOT checks. My current car (the first one I've owned) was bought from my brother in law so we didn't bother performing any of those. I'll have to go away and read up further on what I should be keeping an eye out for.

    My budget is around £16,000 - £17,000 but that may go up slightly depending on how much more I can save. If you don't mind me asking where did you buy your car and what was your experience of it?
