Yeah I started turning it off before the end of the journey, sometimes even turning the heater to max to get as much condense out. I think some of that mould is still stuck on the evaporator unfortunately

The filter was taken out while I done that. I did use an AC bomb without the pollen filter and with a new filter too but they don't work, only a nice smell temporarily.

Long time since the reply but I went to another mechanic and the issue was the fuel line connected into the fuel pump was not connected properly and was keaking little drops out every few seconds. Hope that helps if someone is having problems like this in the future.

Unfortunately the vent pipe didn't fix the issue completely. Luckily now the smell is more concentrated on the right side of the engine (where the fuel pump is ) hopefully its not a costly replacement

Yes, i am talking about the corrugated pipe, it's also indicated on the picture from VW parts. I'm wondering if that pipe being cracked could be the cause of the strong petrol smell (you could smell it outside the car with the bonnet down by the way)
