Been a while since I posted but the dreaded PRNDS had been flashing at me again, ******!
Even after fitting a new selector and seeing only two years of use, it's broken again.
Nothing wrong with the DSG gearbox, car still drove and shifted fine with VCDS throwing a P0820 selector x y position...
Had a check behind your front wheel arches for dirt.
You will need a T25 Torx bit.
I didn't know these cars came with planters. Was worse on the other side.
Got most of it out but will need a jet wash in there next time I wash the car.
Check out this PDF of the 02E DSG which explains a little on how the shiftier relates to the ignition lock.
http://www.evosoft.dk/diagrams/DSG_02E.pdf
Its from VW but that 02e DSG box is pretty much the same as in our Audis.
Pages 6-11 is what you probably want to read through.
I would check...
Went whole hog and got the selector replaced. It's nice and tight now, no more PRNDS flash so far so fingers crossed. If it ain't that its new Mechatronics time which I will just wait for it to totally fail first. Will put aside the £££ for if it does.
Had a new shift selector installed. Hoping it will sort out my intermittent 00194 and 02413 error codes.
So far so good. Car is behaving as it should. New shift selector feels tight and positive changing gears, old one felt very loose in comparison.
Failing this it's probably the mechatronics...
Great advice. Before I replaced the mirror I saw the spade connectors were indeed very crusty.
Sandpaper and IPA spray fixed that.
Mirror definitely the issue for me at the time though.
Aftermarket mirrors were definitively varied in quality. The first set I got were utter *****. Got a second...
Code was persistent after trying to delete them without replacing the mirrors.
Once replaced I had no issues deleting the codes. This was years ago, been fine ever since.
More importantly VCDS codes do exist when there is a fault with the heated mirrors.
Thanks NHN. Got quotes on the shift assembly being that much, as I cant diy I will have to add in labour as well.
Didnt use the car for a week and the PRNDS flash has stopped for now when I drove it today. Go figure.
This is the switch. You can see it better when the selector is in S.
My intermittent issue is now more frequent. Looking into getting the whole selector assembly replaced.
If its the switch, the switch detects whether the lever is in park.
Will throw an error if the switchs thinks its in park and the car is driving, dash lights up the PRNDS.
Accompanied by vcds errors:
00194
02413
Could be a gunked up switch as was mentioned in earlier posts. A few presses...
Alright. New varta F17 blue battery now fitted fully charged. It's reading about 12.8V from the engine jump posts so much better voltage.
Engine on, the alternator is reading higher at about 14.2 - 14.3V which is good.
The old battery could only manage about 12.5V after fully charging from the...
Have a Varta Blue F17 on order, should get it tomorrow, should be closer in spec to the original.
Will give it a full charge on the CTEK then fitting it in.
I concur with lots of random intermittent errors showing up on these cars when there are voltage issues.
Gives me a heart attack every...
Have crossclimate 17's on my a3 for nearly a year now. Fantastic in the wet. No issues plowing through the large puddles on the back lanes during that storm last weekend in east sussex.
