Hello Lads and lasses,

I have now completed the hold assist retrofit, thought i'd pass on the information. Hope this helps somewhat.

Hold Assist Audi A3 S3 8V

1. Remove the Glovebox, there is also a bolt behind the CD changer and disconnect all the wires to the CD changer, LED light and the glove box. There is also wiring to disconnect from the passenger airbag switch.

clip_image002.jpg

2. Disassemble the centre console. For this purpose the use of the centre console has to be expanded. Lever the leather of the gearshift knob upwards. Pull the trim panel A upwards and unplug it. Pull the panel B backwards.

Remove this panel with an integrated MMI control unit. Loosen this control unit together with the chromed frame of the shift lever.

3. Disconnect the existing blank cover, replace it by inserting the hold assist button it will click into place.

4. Now fit the Cable into the Hold Assist Button.

5. Connect the two short individual wires to the 10-pin connector of the parking brake button.

WHITE to be connected to PIN 5 parking brake switch

BROWN to be connected to PIN 6 parking brake, Make this with a crimp or soldered connection.

6. Route the cable set into the passenger footwell, To do this, simply dismantle the climate control part and / or the push button bar. Both components are simply plugged in.

Removing the button strip: Use the standard release clips

7. Wiring of Passenger footwell / fuse box Route the cable set into the Passenger footwell and from there continue towards Fuse Box.

Route the red / white lead into the fuse box in the Passenger footwell.

Please check the fuse carrier in advance for the ignition system (depending on the model year). Insert the cable on the fuse box and secure it with a 5A vehicle fuse.

If there is no free slot (depending on the existing vehicle equipment), please install a new secure slot or solder the cable to an existing line. The other cable set must be routed along the spout into the engine compartment. Open the bonnet.

8. Route the cable set from the Passenger footwell into the engine compartment. Remove the battery. To do this, loosen the screw of the holder and lift out and remove the battery.

After you have removed the battery, you can see a spout that leads from the interior to the engine compartment - pass the cable set through it.

9. Cable routing ABS control unit Route the cable along the existing cable guides to the ESP / ABS control unit.

INFO: The installation location and the accessibility of the ABS control unit vary according to the motor installed.

10. Install the cables on the ABS control unit when installing the plug in the ABS control unit, ensure that the lock is correct. This plug must be 100% unlocked - by moving the pink insert it has to be opened! Disconnect the connector and remove it from the control unit.

Lever out the gray "lever".

Remove the black "cover" - press the catches and remove them (remove the cable ties).

Move the pink insert to release the pins.

Plug in the pins

Hello, Photo bucket.

Ah ok, I know you have to be paid up to use photobucket now. All photos I had on there are no longer showing so I use imgur now.

I have hold assist and never turn it off. Could the feature be turned on with VCDS without installing the switch?

Awesome job! Do you know the coding for retrofit in a FL? I assume it is not the same

Excellent guide!

Had a go at this today with mixed success. Was able to activate hold assist but couldn't get the green dash light to come on (definitely fitted, works on an output test).

Something odd is going on with the coding. Wasn't able to change byte 08 or 19, says error 31 out of range.

Was able to change byte 23 without issues. Original code of F4. Hold assist worked fine changing this to F7 but it also worked with F5. So not sure exactly influence bit 1 has.

Working with byte 23 bit 0 on:

Anyone else have any issues with coding??

i managed to figure out the coding for both PFL als FL.

Use accesscode 20103 if the other ones doesn't work for coding.

Byte 08 - Bit 1
Byte 19 - Bit 6
Byte 23 - Bit 0

Try this

Tried again today but could only change byte 23, bit 0 as before. Says out of range for byte 08 and 19.

Never experienced a coding issue like this before. Maybe my particular long coding has some sort of conflict with another bit, the hardware and software number/version all seem OK.

But on a good note, launch control works just fine. Another thread suggested it doesn't work with hold assist on.

What does hill hold assist do?

Back again with good news! All working now. Was user error with VCDS. The coding changes as above to byte 08 and 19 must be done together or the 'out of range' error shows up.

Special thanks to dandav1985, DJAlix and other contributors in this forum, legends!

8V2927143B - £35.78 inc VAT

There is also a 8V2927143C, one may come with chrome trim and one without, it doesn't say which.

Hallo,

i am a new member and writing from Germany. I have a new Audi A3 8V S-tronic Sportback (facelift 2017). I just read the very helpful post from dandav1985 and the other posts to this thread. I also want to make a hold assist retrofit for my car. There are some difficulties with the ABS control
unit., Audi says. My question is: do you think it is generaly possible to make the retrofit hold assist with my car, that means A3 8V Facelift 2016).

Thanks for answers and greetings

It should be possible on every ABS unit on the facelift.

I'm far from an expert, Just like to do stuff myself and pass on that knowledge. Thanks for the compliment.

As for the ABS unit on the face lift I couldn't tell you for sure. If might me best to post your ABS part number on this thread and we can go from there.

But you should be able to do the hold assist on any of the ABS units on the face lift and pre face lift as mentioned above.

Cheers Dan

Hallo dan,

thanks for posting.

A colleague from a german Audi-forum sent me the ABS part number (8V0 907 379 B) of his car: Audi S3 facelift. He managed the retrofit of the hold assist without problems. I myself couldn't find out the my ABS part number until now. But i think the ABS part numbers of the two cars S3/A3 are not the same. As you wrote me Dan, I was also of the opinion that a retrofitting would have to be possible with a facelift model, but my Audihändler, said there could be difficulties with the ABS control unit that will not except this. So I wanted to make sure that I buy the retrofit kit for nothing. I think one has to try it with VCDS.

Did you bought the right button??

Got the button in, the guy at my local TPS was a huge help.
The coin tray is missing now.
Any suggestions on replacement or should I cannibalise the old cover and glue it in place?

after reading this thread i used mine for the first time today, actually quite useful when in traffic etc. :)

Hello,

It may be useful - the whole kit for mounting and starting an auto hold in A3 (pre-and post-lifting version) can be purchased on this site. The encoding also contains information.

You just have to choose which version A3 and what button (with chrome or without)

I bought them myself and it works.

The set includes a button, a coin holder + an electrical wiring + assembly instructions and coding.

I bought the wiring loom from them and the button from my local tps.

The only thing missing now is the coin holder. Any clues on that one as the button blank and coin holder for my car are the same piece of plastic.

Any images people have of this stage would be really appreciated.

I bought the whole set.

This coin holder for auto hold also buy from your local dealer - it will be the easiest.
