Do you know what the build date is that's stamped into the gearbox near the starter motor?I finally finished the swap last weekend and drove about 250km. Unfortunately, I started having an issue when I pulled in to a parking lot. It made a loud clunking noise and juddered. I parked and turned it off for about 10 mins.
I turned it back on and tried to reverse but it barely moved and it wouldn't move in neutral with 2 people pushing. I was able to drive forward and shift through gears but it made a grinding noise that varied in loudness.
It's a 2013 dq500 from a RSQ3 swapped in to a 2012 GTI.
Any ideas?

I dont think its the smart thing to do.
dq500 is a slower gearbox compared to dq250, and a lot heavyer.
Also mqb swap is more complex to do, not easy as the non mqb swaps.
What i would do: get some good clutches from Dima Deka in Ukraine , best clutches available for the dsg.
Also a lot cheaper than a swap.

The issue is that I'm close to 500wtq causing slippage. All the clutch upgrades I saw were extremely expensive. Maybe I'll look into deka clutches stage 3 upgrade for $1450usd.
Will either of these transfer cases work instead of 0A6409053AF or AH?
0CP409053A or 0CP409053G
They appear to be the successor to 0A6409053AJ, which was used on the Q3 8U and Tiguan 5N. They also look identical.
I can find one from an Atlas for a good price. It's hard for me to get 0A6409053AF/H over here.

Component protection on the dq500 only affects the mqb chassis, doesnt matter on the pre mqb stuff as the gearboxes communicate with the car differently. Just avoid the 2013 ones as stated in this thread as there was a vw tpi for the syncromesh as per the thread and try to get something off a petrol basically.Trying to research a DQ500 swap for a couple of VWs.
Does anyone have a list of gearbox codes and build dates, plus avoiding the dreaded MQB component protection?

Petrol and Diesel Tiguan boxes have the same gearing 1-3rd, with an RS3 box providing about 5 mph more in first. And RS3 box would be good but very expensive.
I was interested to read your Tiguan box could use RS3 mechatronics no issues, very useful info just in case it all goes wrong for me...Can I ask, was your RS3 mech a Bosch, and the Tiguan Siemens? May make it easier to identify if I check a box out.

I think I'm right in saying you used an NZS box, but had the component protection issue -that surprises me as people have used the NZS in R32/6 swaps and managed to get it working. Perhaps it's a box used on pre-MQB and MQB, some with and some without the component protection? Just to make it a bit more challenging.

There's can hi, can lo, +ve, ground and start inhibitor from memory, there's k-line if dq250 which isn't relevant on mqb chassis

That's misleading, all the dq500 gearboxes use the same mechatronics but to suit the different ratios and shift quality have different software, and it doesn't need to be from an 8P either.
I've used a tiguan dq500 and an 8p dq500 in an 8p both were fine but the tiguan dq500 was affected by the synchro shafts fault. Whether they updated the mechatronics later like they did for the dl501's I don't know but anything upto 2016 should be fine regardless
