Hi Guys.
A few months ago i bought my A4 Saloon 2008 B8 it is Ice Silver LX7W. I got it at a cheap price due to rusting arches.

The other day i had a slight bump and i was thinking of repairing it myself cheaply rather than claim on my insurance. This would give me an excuse to replace both of the wings. Looking at the accident damage i think i can get away with painting the bumper and replacing the damaged wing. The light and bonnet seem fine too. Also replace the rusty wing on the other side.

What is the cheapest option for repairing this myself? I already have a mismatch of paint with the front wings as i think they have been previously painted.

Buy genuine second hand wings in the correct colour.
Buy genuine second hand wings in any colour and get them painted.
Buy non genuine wings and get them painted once fitted.
Buy pre painted non genuine wings

I'd try to buy x2 genuine used in the same colour, and if you could get the front bumper off the same car, IMO, ideal. :thumbs up:

Wings are pretty cheap, tbh I’d buy a decent set and get them painted

Whatever you do, just don't buy pattern parts. Either breaker genuine wings and get them painted. Bumper should be salvageable.

Thanks for your reply. Do pattern parts tend to be a bad fit? I agree about the bumper. Should i go for wings with no rust or is a little rust acceptable if i plan on getting them painted Anyway? ;)

Pattern parts by definition will be inferior, I'm not just saying that because I'm blinded by the brand marketing, their wings will probably be a thinner metal, possibly just an undercoat primer, rather than zinc rust-proofed. Had even thought about the fit - but that as well. If you're getting them painted, then even existing wings in a different colour - should give them more paint protection.

You really don't want rust on wings you buy, as it's a losing battle trying to keep on top of it. Audi introduced inlays or plastic guards on the 8.5 but can be retro-fitted to B8, so should be one of the first things you fit when it comes out of the body-shop. More details here: https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/fitting-b8-5-arch-stone-guards-on-b8.380431/

My A4 Allroad comes with wing moldings that effectively do the same thing. That stone chip exposes the bare metal and the moisture destroys them in a couple of years.

TBH when rebuilding my S4 I inadvertently bought a pattern part from a car that was being broken, fits just fine and you cannot tell it is different at all.

Thanks for your reply. I will try and source genuine rust free wings, ideally the right colour but i will keep my options open to any colour.

Thanks for the info and link on those stone guards its hard to imagine those guards make much difference but definitely worth doing after fitting and painting the wings. ;)

Thanks for your reply good to hear you had no problem fitting it. ;)

Hi guys i found one for sale and it is the same side as the damaged one and the correct colour. He said he can do it for £90 collected. Overall it looks ok an would let me get the one side done for now. Is it an ok deal for this condition and the right colour? There are a few chips too. There are 12 pics. What do you think?

Seems expensive to me, I think I paid £45 or so a side for facelift wings

Can't comment on the price, but if you go for it, get waxoil or similar on the inside of wing. I've started using Lanogard on the subframe to keep rust at bay.

Thinking about it I have a non facelift passenger side wing sat in my garage, if you are near Nottingham you are welcome to come and grab it for free

I think the seller is a bit steep on his pricing of this, tell him to keep it or offer him £50- £60 collected. :whistle2:

Yeah thanks for your reply the price of wings on ebay are all over the place. This is the only one that is the right colour for that side so im not in a position to argue. When you weigh it up against getting it painted its a price i might have to pay. ;)

Ha ha nothing to lose i guess but its the only one available.

Is there any of these part websites worth trying or are they a rip off too?

I know what you're saying about availability, as you know, us Scots hate to see anyone paying over the odds. :gun2:
Not had any dealings with part websites, like most websites though, they are what they are.

I suggest you do ebay search, Audi A4 b8 breaking, there's loads to choose from, I think there's a few in your colour.
Contact seller and take it from there?

I remember years ago ring around all the breakers but that was a nightmare, the breakers actual websites dont have any info either of their stock etc.

I have already spent countless hours on ebay looking for people breaking A4 b8 near me or searching for parts and breaking cars using my paint code. I lost count of the extensive amount of emails i sent. Only this 1 wing i can find in the right colour im afraid, there are people who are selling wings in other colours so my searching seems to leave me with this 1 wing and they wont lower the price either they said.

Ha ha yes mate that was me

Moon blue or something, very grey but sometimes looks a little blueish.

I thought it seemed familiar! Oddly enough I am simonh on there as well :)
