Does anyone else have their brake pedal make a knock/clang noise when you lift your foot off the pedal?

It only seems to happen when the hold assist kicks in, as if it's not releasing the pedal all the way and then releases it fully causing it to clang.

It happens with my 35tfsi manual but didn't happen on the 30tdi manual loan car I drove a few weeks ago. I've been told it's a 'characteristic' of the car...

I drove a new base spec A3 as a courtesy car a few weeks back, it didn't have hold assist but tellingly didn't have this knock issue.

The 30tdi S Line that did have hold assist also didn't have the problem.

Mine has it but it's intermittent which makes me think it can't be a characteristic as although it does seem linked to the hold assist, it's probably not hold assist that's causing the primary problem. Maybe something to do with the pedal catching/lubricating or something on the servo as it's not happening all the time???

They all have Hold Assist as Standard - Probably wasn't turned on in the MMI

Ah right, didn't know that, didn't even know you could turn hill hold off. Interestingly I've turned this off and on the drive home did not notice the clanging noise once. The brake pedal also felt slightly different on the release so it's definitely linked to hill hold.
