Hi everyone,
I just wanted to ask for advice motor about oil.

I'm working on project car same platform as A3. 1.8t (new beetle 2000 awv) and I'm buidling new engine,completly
with new turbo g25-550.Currently I have 260k and I'm using 10 40w

Do you recommend to upgrade or downgrade viscosity?
Which brand you recomend,wich viscosity?I guess should be some racing oil,but not sure which one is the best for me.

10w-40 will be fine, 5w-40 would also be ideal. Only need to go thicker if its oil temps are getting excessive either due to use, power or both. Synthetic would be best.

If you want the best oils for performance, look for an ester synthetic.

Cheers,

Guy.

5w40 ester based is a sound bet... I have used Millers Nanodrive 5w40 in both my 620hp 20v and now my VR6... as already mentioned you may want to go 10w50 if you plan to use on a track but for occasional traffic light blasting (in mexico) then 5w40 will be fine...

An oil cooler wouldn't go amiss either way tbh as the 20v can run quite warm...

@oilman , @<tuffty/> ,

Thank you guys a lot! This is very helpful. I think I'll go with 5w40...The temperature during the winter is around -20 and during the summer is around +35. Yes I'm planning to have track day sometimes, but this will be street/daily car + car for the track.

Btw. What do you think about Motul 300v? oil? Which one you are using?
Cheers :)

For hard performance use with heavily modified engines, Motul 300v is about as good as it gets. Great stuff.

Guy

@oilman

Thank you for a quick answer, I'm not sure is it heavily modified, but this is the plan...

Film strength of oil HTHS .

As with oil not everything would be as it seems and higher the oil film strength the greater the anti wear .

It's caused me to raise an eyebrow regarding the racing Ester marketed oils.

The Motul 300v 5w-40 is - HTHS viscosity at 150°C (302°F) ASTM D4741 4.1 mPa.s

HTHS (hight temp high shear) is important, but it is not the only thing as its all about the balance. There are other things such as NOAK and TBN to look at as well. I have found over the years staring at data sheets to work out whats best often leads you round in circles. For performance/motorsport oils there is only one proving ground, the track.

Cheers

It's a nice shopping list and I would say that is heavily modified engine. I wouldn't bother with 8.5:1 pistons as they will just make the engine flat off boost and not nice to drive as a daily. Do not go with Wossner pistons what ever you decide to fit.
Get the NGK R8 coilpacks from Autodoc around £100 for 4.
Plenty of big power high revving engines using standard Contitech / Gates belts . Get a 2.0 TFSI diamond washer for the crank bolt, only about £15 from the dealers and is a bit of cheap insurance on top of the ARP bolt. Not sure I would bother with the adjustable cam gear and piper cams. NA cams will work well for your build as the G25-550 is not that big a turboand you won't get the benefit at high revs 8K +.
I would also consider looking at the Ignitron ECU, fantastic piece of kit designed to replace the ME7.5 .
Have a look at the build thread for my 510bhp TT.
With the money you save not fitting fancy bits buy a CSF rad and fit a Thermostic oil cooler kit. Any track work will work the engine hard even fast road will push up oil temps on a 450bhp car.

Hi @desertstorm thank you for joining the conversation and thank you for all your advice!
I'll take a look closer at your TT build, 510bhp is a lot of power. Definitely, I can save some extra money...Just trying to make a nice and reliable build. I don't want to save on the cheap parts, but sometimes I'm extreme...Maybe is too much :D

I already bought some parts and I can't go back at this moment :)

I just wonder about NGK, are they good as VW?I also need adapters?
I chose WISECO pistons 8.5:1 because people say that I can push more boost than with 9.5:1 it's hard to decide...I think they are reliable for what I'm planning to use,I really hope so. I heard that Wossner pistons failed most of the time and I decided to go with WISECO

I choose g25-550 because is small and powerful and starts spooling on very low RPM. I have to make a balance between turbo lag and the size of turbo. Trying to find the middle. Maybe I'm wrong!?

For the camshaft, I'm thinking between these ones...

Cam CodeAUD20TBP300B
ApplicationRace
Power Band3500-7500

and this one
Cam CodeAUD20TBP285B
ApplicationUltimate Road
Power Band2500-6500

The problem I have with ECU is a good tuner, unfortunately, I'm currently far from the UK and I can't go with Ignitron ECU, I found a tuner house that works with ECU master and I decided to go with it.

Where did you find CSF rad and fit a Thermostic oil cooler kit?I would buy it definitely...I can find something like that https://www.bar-tek-tuning.com/18t-oil-cooler-kit
Btw what about 1000cc Bosch are they are good enough? Which one you're using in your build?

Thank you again!

HI, The intake manifold you have bought is unfortunately not any better and possibly worse than a stock manifold. It looks pretty but it's a poor design.They are a lot cheaper on Aliexpress.

It's ok running 8.5:1 pistons for a really big build with lots of boost. You are only running a G25-550 so 2 bar max really, Engine will obviously run OK but if you want quicker spool and more torque lower down something like 9.25:1 is better.
The NGK U5014 coils are well renowned and have been tested many times to perform really well and they aren't expensive.

The Bosch 1000cc injectors are what I use on my car, the best option for a 500bhp build.

@desertstorm
Oh, man! I'm worried now. Looks like I did everything wrong...
I take 82mm pistons, just to get a bit more displacement...Now I'm thinking of a 2.0FSI crankshaft and build a stroker.Im not sure how aliexpress intake looks like,but this one have a nice finish inside and beveled edges...

btw. what is the oem code for bosch injectors?

Did you you think I will be far of 450hp with this setup?
