Had my A3 Sport less than a week and I appear to have a problem with the brakes. What I am finding is that with the brake applied when I go to pull away it will stick and not release, I then have to put my foot on the brake and push the parking brake button. This is with hold assist and the electronic barking brake.

At first I thought it might only happen when I’m in heavy slow moving traffic and therefore something to do with the pre-sense systems, but I’ve just had the issue occur in an empty car park. What’s more frustrating is that my previous A3 had a similar issue and exhibited the same problem and this was one of my reasons for changing.

Does anyone else get this?

I sometimes get some resistance when pulling off with the parking brake on, but it doesn’t stick to the extent that you describe (I have the auto-box in case if that makes a difference). On the whole, I don’t use the parking brake much when driving, relying instead on the auto hold system, which holds the car on the footbrake (except at traffic lights at night, when I want to avoid shining brake lights at the following driver).

My S3 8V electronic parking brake was spot on. Lightest touch of the throttle and it released without holding you back however on the 8Y I feel like it's not programmed very accurately.

I don't have it stick either but like Adam above says, there is almost a little resistance when pulling away with it. You feel the back end of the car sink down more than it should and you can hear the disks push through the pads.

Mines the same, so I just use the auto hold.
When I first got my car auto hold didn’t work and I had to manually pull the switch when I went to pull away it felt like it was going to stall.

Mines a manual, and it occurs with the auto hold (hold assist) as well as the parking brake. I use hold assist most of the time but if I'm going to be stationary for any length of time I transfer to the parking brake so not to dazzle the person behind me. As I pull away you can hear the brakes growl and refuse to release, annoyingly it is intermittent.

I'm going to give the garage a call in the morning I don't want to go through this problem with a 2nd car, it's not a pleasant feeling sitting in traffic going to pull away and feeling the car dip and then the brake doesn't release apart from looking like an idiot who forgot to release the handbrake I think it's potentially dangerous, if the car behind thinks I'm pulling away and moves they're going to hit me in the rear.

There are some Auto hold settings in the ABS module for early, medium, late etc.

Funny you should say that mine had to have a new ABS module due to the parking brake failure and since then it feels much better.

that's interesting, how can you get the ABS module adjusted ? I've reported handbrake on my S3 to dealer twice due to sticking on, not fully but rear dips and makes a kinda clunk sound as the brake pads release. dealer told me this is normal due to bigger stronger brakes on the S3 which will ease after a few thousand mile !!!!!! he even managed to keep a straight face while he told me !!!! 5k in a still sticks, dips and clunks 90% of the time when I use handbrake.

I am having exactly the same problem. I've had people almost run into the back of me numerous times. It's been back to Audi who obviously can't recreate the problem and want me to video it. Yeah. I'll just pull my phone out and video the car every time I pull away from a junction/roundabout/lights - no bother.

Find someone with VCDS and see if they can go into Adaptions in 03 ABS to tweak it and also see what it’s currently set at.
