Hi Guys & Gals
I say "Parasitic Drain" because i can't think of any other terminology to describe the problem
I am now on my second new battery, both are correct for the vehicle i.e. 77Ah
If the vehicle is left for two days it will fail to start.
I have tried all of the Forums that I belong to including this one and nobody has come up with an alternative solution, i.e. a wire from the negative terminal post and another wire to the negative lead both to finish at my multimeter set to mA's and i have going through all the fuses.
I have also searched on YouTube
I have even left the vehicle for two hours for it to go to sleep
There is no light in the glove box i.e. I have taken the festoon bulb out the same with the interior light.
When I start the car the ignition light goes out immediately
When I leave the vehicle the ONLY thing that is illuminated is the triangle for the hazard warning lights.
Has anybody had this or similar where all the fuses where normal but still losing a charge after two days
My vehicle is a A3 1.9Tdi 3 door hatchback P1 2009

Stock radio?

Does it have audi bluetooth &/or rns-e

Hi there
Many thanks for the contribution to my thread.
Stock radio yes Audio Chorus
I fitted a 6 disc CD changer using the existing VW - Audi harness
Just while I have your attention do you happen to know where the Audi alarm is fitted and also the siren / sounder
My vehicle is an Audi 1.9Tdi 3 door hatchback 2009 8P1
Finally this problem was happening before fitting the cd changer, I was just wait for the weather to improve

Siren is fitted in drivers wing, behind a metal box, its a pig of a place to get too, so if its gone, then have 1 ready to swap then & there, batteries leak internally.

When I took off the front bumper to install my new LED lights I had to take off both wheel arch liners and I did not see any kind of box on either wheel arch

It is fitted right up by the hinges, hidden in silver box, foam insert maybe covering it also, drives side, remove arch liner or pull back to show the foam behind the hinges, its right at the top near to windscreen bottom so to speak.

O.K I'm back

Now I have my 15a fuse for my multimeter

I have just come back from a short run and tested the drain.

I switched my multimeter to AMPS then changed the red lead round to the AMPS port and connected that to the

I disconnected the negative battery terminal and connected my multimeter lead to the terminal I then connected one lead to the negative battery lead with my multimeter please see diagram.

But this reading fluctuates from .300 to .600 and various digits in between. I'm not going to list them all.

I pulled and replaced every fuse in the passenger compartment and the box under the hood.

There was no change whatsoever, when I mean change as an example going from 0.600 down to 0.010

Together with the NEW extra long meter leads these were the reading that I was getting

Have you had your car scanned for fault codes? Did you disconnect the larger fuses on the front of the battery box (from memory)?

Hi there
Thanks for the response
I seem to think that I mentioned somewhere in the thread that I have a Maxicue OBD
Yes I have tried the ones in front of the battery box.
I am now away from my desktop
Kind regards
Tony

With reference to the parasitic drain and have checked BOTH fuse boxes inside and the out side with my second meter and none of the fuse showed anything untoward. But at the battery I was show .76mA I tried the method without removing the fuses i.e. with probes on top and there was absolutely nothing, no parasitic drain at yet when I go back to the battery I'm back to .76mA Do you have any ideas please

Does the Maxicue OBD reader read other modules as a lot of the aftermarket ones only read the engine ECU. I would get a scan done using VCDS. It is quite common for a door module to fail and it prevents the car going to sleep.

Hi there People
You may or may not have noticed my absence from the Forum regarding my thread, I will tell you why.
I used all my knowledge plus I tried suggestions raised by member on here and other Audi related Forums and I was getting no-where.
I then came across a YouTube video and in one of the comments that followed someone ( I can't remember the YouTube video or the contributor by name) and they said and I quote "sometimes an Alternator Voltage Regulator Diode" pack can go faulty and cause the parasitic drain.
With that in mind and after trying everything else I purchased another used alternator and just for good measure I replaced the Alternator Voltage Regulator Diode pack and slip rings.
I took it for run 3 - 4 miles and parked it up on my driveway, but I left the bonnet not fully closed, I then left it for 7 days without touching it / trying it or anything else.
Today is the seventh day I went out to the car and it started immediately, no sort of trying to start but just started as though I had been in it yesterday.
So as far as I am concerned to me it looks like the problem is solved.
Many thanks to all who contributed, but it looks like it is case closed.
Tony
