I noticed that the car doesn’t seem to be applying the handbrake when putting the car in park and switching the ignition off.

It’s not just that the handbrake LED isn’t illuminating, when I switch it on manually, it illuminates and I hear the brake servo doing its thing.

I’ve read the manual (really) and there’s no mention of it auto applying there, but every other DSG Audi/VW I’ve had applied the e-handbrake when putting into park and switching off the car.

Is there a way to auto enable the handbrake on engaging Park/ignition off?

If it’s like every Audi I’ve had the auto hill hold needs to be turned on for auto handbrake to work

Pretty sure this can be done on OBD11 also

OP, as others have said use OBD11 or Carista to change setting to apply handbrake automatically once car is put into P. Even better when you're switching off the engine, no need to press P first - just press the ON/OFF engine button and the car will automatically select P and enable handbrake.

In my experience the application of the 'handbrake' seems to be almost random, sometimes it engages automatically and at other times it does not.
