Hi guys after repairing my drivers door wires twice in 2 years due to them cracking/breaking i have finally decided to try a more permanent fix.
After searching the web for a complete door loom i found used good condition ones are rarer than rocking horse poo and new ones far too expensive so i decided to find a repair kit.
Even repair kits are quite expensive for what they are and start from about £50 . After much searching i have found 1 on ebay .
could anyone confirm this will be the right one for my car it says it fits all doors. cheers.

I suspect you're not creating slack in the loom when repairing, best to pull about an inch more loom towards the hinge boot, then repair, solder, heat shrink, never failed for repairs I've done.

Hi mate plenty of slack in the cable .It's just that the cables are that brittle they are cracking again either side of the repair and 2 others that where fine last time i looked had snapped inside the boot . So basically nearly every wire has had a repair and the loom is almost twice the thickness it used to be. So must be straining every time the door is open and closed .
Think i will just bite the bullet and order that kit and sort it once and for all.
Thanks for your input.

I had this exact same problem about 3 years ago. I just put a couple of wago's on it for a temporary fix, but so far so good so I guess I've just been lucky! I did add about 2 inches of extra wire though. Wiring on these cars seems to be very brittle. I've just recently replaced my coolant temp sensor wire as it had a break in it. Be interested to know if this is the part as I may need it in the very near future.

Ordered the kit . Due tuesday next week. 100% positive feedback for seller and most feedback is for the repair kit so worth a punt.
Will update when it arrives . There is a great vid on youtube of a guy using a similar kit on an a3 8p to do the repair if anyone isn't sure how to do it.
cheers

The seller of that kit is someone on here. I’ve purchased looms and puddle light kits etc from him for a long time and his service if excellent. You’ll have no problems at all.

i know m8 . i only realised after i made the fist post and got the ebay invoice. :thumbs up:

Hi guys.
After weeks of not getting a minute to myself i finally got around to fixing my drivers door loom yesterday.
The kit i ordered from Rocketwires is spot on .:thumbs up:. Using the old connecter as a reference it was a piece of cake to figure out which pins and colours went where.
I highly recommend this repair kit it has enough length on the wires to cut the old loom well past the damaged wires and the wires are a lot more flexible than the old stiff and brittle ones.
I decided not to use the crimp connectors supplied and instead used some solder shrink connections i got from ebay for a few quid.
If you have a heat gun handy i think these make a far better joint as the solder floods inside and the shrink tube seals out any moisture.
cheers

Hey guys, first time attempting a repair like this on my own, I had 3 broken wires and a few looked ready to break so went ahead and ordered the kit above. After receiving it I dismantled the panel and replaced the wires before reassembling. The only issue I can see is my Airbag light hasn't went off since reconnecting everything. Do I need to take to a dealer to get reset?

Did u order the kit from Rocketwires if yes get bk in contact with them and ask if there should be any reason to why ( if its just a door loom ur sorting ) the Airbag light coming on

Iirc ur drivers airbag has a plug behind it and a wire going to slip ring ( sometimes mines will come on, on dash but i just reset it ) so am a bit confused by why changing door loom should affect it . But stranger things have happened , maybe its time to get it diagnosed with genuine Vcds as it could just be a coincidence that this has happened after trying to fix doorloom

Doesn’t the side have impact sensors could be that

I'm sure there is an impact sensor in the door and that's one of the wires that would have been repaired, I'm just wondering if I can possibly clear it somehow and then if it comes back I will take it to Audi/Vw authorised repair shop. I read somewhere I can just disconnect battery for a minute and it will clear.

Vcds should clear it or leave battery disconnected for a while to reset if not I dunno
