Hi all - got a 2017 facelift A6 without the virtual cockpit but was under the impression that the standard instrument display would still show a miniature version of the map?

it shows a compass currently and directions in the form of arrows but no map?

Apparently its in a hidden menu within the DIS? Is this true?

The C7 platform never got the Virtual Cockpit option, if you got the Technology Pack with the MMI Plus Navigation then you also got a colour DID display between the dials. If you have this then when Navigation mode on the instrument panel press the Menu button on the steering wheel (LH side) and scroll down the options displayed, one of which is Map. This will then display the map between the two dials. If you only have the standard RMC navigation (maps on SD Card) then it is not possible to display the maps on the DIS, also the DIS will only be monochrome

Oh right I see - must have got confused as I know some other models come with the map as standard even without the Virtual Cockpit so must have got them mixed up

Yup thats correct in that the display is monochrome

You get a maps view on the older clusters if you have a colour cluster and a 'better' MMI system like the 3G or the MIB.

Sorry to jump on the back of this thread but literally I am in the same predicament. Looking to buy an A6 abs struggling to identify from basic Auto Trader photos which MMI is which. Would anyone be able to help me with how to tell apart the better version from the cheap one just from a photo so I don't mess up.
I noticed there seems to be two different styles of main panel but unsure which is the better of the two, or if this is indeed a good way to tell them apart?

Any help to ensure I can make sure I do get the one with the newer version is appreciated.

Thanks, Oli.

The top photo, the one with the SD card slots behind a flap is the upgraded system and means the car has the Tech Pack. The bottom one is the standard system, often referred to as RMC.

Note that if the car is a pre-facelift model then the tech pack used a 3G mobile connection while facelift cars use 4g and also get a DIS that can display the map between the main dials
