I don’t know what to say really, faith in a decent dealer once again gone.

Had a ‘while you wait’ service / inspection / brake fluid change done there yesterday.
Arrived at 12.15 was told 3 and half hours max to do the works.

Car moved at 12.30 into their workshop
Car back out at 2.27 into the car park
3.30 I’m still sat there waiting
Spoke to the receptionist asked is it normal to be kept waiting over an hour after the car is finished ?
She didn’t had a scooby, went in the back and brought out the service adviser I’d booked in with, just dealing with a customer sir, wtf, the guy who literally just came in sat down for 5 mins and was seen to pretty much straight away, you couldn’t make this up.

3.50 I was finally able to drive away from this rubbish dealership.

Never again.

Arrived home and one caliper had brake fluid dribble on the side, they couldn’t be bothered cleaning the residue off it, probably because they never take the wheels off to change fluid these days.

And they wonder why people don’t like using them.

My last Audi (my S3) came from Macclesfield from new in 2014. At that time they were excellent and I always went back to the same dealership for all work until I parted with the car last year. Post pandemic I also noticed things going downhill and a lot of unnecessary waiting around for while you wait type appointments. Also failed to call back when promised a number of times……..I obviously went to them when wanting my RS3 but they were very uninterested. Switched to Crewe Audi, who I had heard some negative reports about but they have been superb. Sales couldn’t have been better and since taking delivery in June 2022 my experience with the service team has so far been fantastic. First service was while I waited……actually popped into town for an eye test and it was all ready for me when I returned as promised. Most recently was the recall, which was booked on a 09:30 time slot and I waited only 10 minutes while they checked it. They also honoured my 'do not wash' instructions both times, with clearly written notes on the worksheet and they actually have different coloured key fobs for the cars not to be washed. Still won't stop me leaving notices in the car but so far I like them. Maybe not too far for you so maybe worth a try? Have also heard Warrington are pretty good but never used them.

Last service earlier this year they seemed fine.

This visit couldn’t be more different.

Never seen so many people trying to look busy.

Crewe too far for me

I drive past the closest dealer because the first time they saw the car they put the back end through a hedge. Issue still ongoing. I didn't mind driving a bit further for what I thought was a better dealer.

Over last 3 years I have noticed the sloppy way they have filled the oil and it has run and splattered over that side of the engine. Never enough to say anything and I thought I would clean it and everything that stuck to it when I changed the coil packs to the latest iteration.

But it was due plugs and I thought I would let them free off the coil packs first and make the coil pack job easier. I then get the 'video' and has over £1500 of work needed for leaking cam cover investigation and strip down. When I asked about where the found the oil, I was told it was in the first 2 plug holes and the top of the engine.

No s***t Sherlock...................

When I asked how exactly the oil from a leaking cam cover found its way onto the top of the engine around the filler neck, I can't say I was met by any level of understanding from anyone I spoke too that day, which was probably the most worrying part :grumpy:

They are all the same.

I think they became more complacent when the 8Y RS3 came out, everyone of them became mega greedy when having stock to sell on, no negotiation, now the bottoms come out of car sales they are back on the come in and let’s do a deal scenario.
They are even popping up in Fudbook groups and on here trying to offer cars cheaper now because no one is buying and orders that were for cashing in are being cancelled.

I know they are dearer than independents (as they are tied to OEM) but it doesn't warrant a 'they are all the same' tar brush.
My time with Audi dealerships was not all pocket emptying,a few issues which on reflection could have done me over they saved me a wad of money.
I know that generally if customers question such issues then a justifiable response is given.

Well the issue with the oik who test drove my bog standard car and found lift-off oversteer is still ongoing and likely to end in court.

This dealership still cannot answer why they continually spill oil round the filler neck and don't bother to clean it up and why one of their master techs did not see this as the cause before trying to get £1500 worth of 'investigation' out of me.

What did annoy me was I got the standard 'customer service' call to ask if 'everything was OK with the service?' When I asked if she had an answer to the (above) question I asked at the time, she said she would get back to me that day and a month later no call has followed. Not that I expected one.

They shouldn't ask for feedback if they don't want to hear it

Agree here.

I could understand if it was a larger dealership with 20/30 cars in a day and lots going on, not a small dealership with 4 service advisors and only 1 actually doing anything.

The girl that did the car service I expected better off, Christ they even have posters in the service area saying ‘Chloe knows your car better than anyone as she’s done over 900 Mot’s’

Yet you get sloppy procedures like brake fluid dribbling down the caliper….brake cleaner and a rag helps here.

A 6 min test drive, fair enough, but F F S have the sense to switch off heated seats and put the driver chair back to how you found it.

And keeping the customer waiting around for 1 hour 20 mins before they can get on their way.
The cynic in me thinks the longer they appear to keep you there the better you think the service is and it’s been done properly.

In response to some of the posts above…. It’s reasonable to say paying the extra fee for dealers IF you are getting a throughly good job.. But from my encounters I really do not think necessarily you are..

From my own experience 2 different dealerships in my area had damaged both the pre facelift & current facelift 8V. The last occasion (this year), the dealer agreed to replace a front alloy, & the front plastic air intake, which looked like someone had gone at with a wire brush..??

If you’re paying top dollar for a service, you shouldn’t really expect these kinda incidents. I normally purchase a service plan, but now I’m beginning to reconsider this as I dread what’s gonna happen to the car come service time..? At this rate I’m running out of dealerships in my area, does anyone have any good dealers recommendations in the south east. Thanks in advance..

Catching up with this thread, the only time I went into a dealership for a service with the 8Y has been to put a tick on the 9H70 recall. Have been using an Independent in Oxford for the last 20+ years, which included the 8V and now the 8Y. They can update the service record, so all work is recorded and visible to Audi and I get a paper copy of the screenshot of the record.
All though the dealership loops plush on the outside, dont get the same feeling, the inside and the workmanship from the public eye is the same. So will stick with the chaps in Oxford.

A couple of moments I missed.

Service advisor was talking to another guy in the waiting area, she apologised to him as they found a puncture in one of his tyres, but Audi don’t offer repairs on tyres,

we can order you 4 new ones though as yours are near the legal limit, no thank you he replied, I’ve come all the way from Bolton so will get them sorted there,
she then started on a whole ‘duty of care’ thing, making out that she would only allow him to have the car on the condition he bought new tyres at the earliest opportunity.

Funny how she would be ok with him driving away with a puncture etc and come back another day to have new tyres fitted you couldn’t make this up.

When she was going through the paperwork with me, she turned around and said ‘I can see you’ve one service left on the plan to use on this inspection we’ve just done’ eh what are you talking about ? I took the plan out 2 weeks ago, she then decided to spend even more wasteful time trying to verify what I’d just told her, like I was lying .

Sounds like they are after people to work there.
I’m not a trained mechanic but I’m damn sure I’d do a better job than some of those that work there already

Phone call this morning…….

Workshop controller, seen my comment on his come work for us post.
What can they do to rectify it, can I go in for them to fit the new pollen filter, no I replied, because it’s over an hour drive just to get there, so a morning out of the business.
Send it in the post please.

Can we offer you a free MOT then ? Hmmm …… no thanks it isn’t due for another year

Told him in no uncertain terms he needs to be getting a grip of what his ‘techs’ are doing and also there needs to be better communication between workshop / service reception.

Safe to say I won’t be going back, far too slapdash servicing for me.

Are Macclesfield Audi Inchcape - probably explains it then lol ?

They're embroiled in that complete disaster over at Jaguar Land Rover Derby where the entire site was flooded and they've been completely fobbing all their customers off lol and there was like well documented proof the site was prone to flooding too lol.

I can report similar experiences with Audi dealers in the South. My local one had my old RS3 8V in for a water pump replacement under warranty.
When I got the car back the engine bay was filthy, spilt coolant and marks everywhere.
A friend who’s a senior tech with Mercedes said to me he’d have been given a verbal warning if he’d returned a customer car in that condition.
This is why I don’t use main dealer, both I’ve used simply had no pride in their work at all.

People call them main stealers for a reason.

In hindsight, it may be better to call them to check if the job has been finished.

Update.

Inchcape head office useless…….

Audi HQ running them a close second.

Macclesfield Audi wanted the car back to change the pollen filter, no chance I told them, send it via post and I’ll change it myself, that was Tuesday and still no pollen filter arrived, told me it was a supplier problem, hmmm, rang their parts dept the day after and they had them in stock at £42 each.

Had a call yesterday from the customer experience manager at Macc Audi, apologising that no one has been in contact, as the previous customer experience manager has left, how telling….

The service departments are getting wise to Dashcam and are now disconnecting the power when its being serviced. My daughter's car when it was picked up, dashcam power cable unplugged last week.

If they had been the Audi Macclesfield of 9 years ago, I would have ordered my RS3 there and be using them for all my servicing. Won’t go near them now. Really seem to have let things slip.

Friend of a mate is a car technician. He said to do a combination of certain services PROPERLY takes 8 hours. His manager said you've 4 hours to complete all the services.
So the technician just doesn't do certain jobs, but ticks the box to say it has been done. Apparently, this practice is common in the industry.

had the same with Honda a few years back, my windscreen wipers were falling apart and yet the 'check windscreen wiper condition OK' was checked.

Service Manager said they ticked the box because they didnt have any in stock..................................

As a general rule you only find out how good a dealer is when you have a problem, routine stuff is generally routine, unless they kerb a wheel like they did on my Golf R.

I went off on one and the service manager explained how it couldnt possibly be their fault and was obviously there when I took the car in

Except (because I had been in this situation before)

I asked the service girl to check all the wheels with me when I dropped the car off, she replied a little sheepishly that all the wheels were OK on drop off

Still didnt get a new wheel though, they swapped one over from the demo car f f s

Have yet to come across a consistent dealer myself.
Stafford audi failed to find a squeaky gearbox mount, changed parts on one side of the 8P RS3 we had, so I had to change the corresponding parts on the opposite side to do the job correctly.
They also left a Bucket seat loose on all four spline bolts after investigating a bolster issue and at the same time left the A/C caps on the windscreen trim after carrying out the A/C service.

Manchester Audi couldn’t find a squeaky gearbox mount on the 8P RS3 either and had it weeks, they also tried to wriggle out of the 2 free services etc we had on buying a second S3 from them, basically the salesman said the offer didn’t apply even though it was plastered all over the cars at the point of sale.

Stockport told us a car was ready when we went down it wasn’t and then took another 1&1/2 hours trying to finish a software update, a friend took his 8P RS3 there too and had his paintwork scratched to hell as they washed it, and somehow they punctured a nearly new tyre and tried selling him a new one.

Macclesfield took 3 months to diagnose a gearbox mount on the 8P RS3, virtually no updates during that time they had it, had to get Audi UK involved in the end.
We also took our 8V PFL to Macclesfield Audi shortly after buying it new, weird DSG behaviour that baffled them, again they had it weeks, even a super tech from Audi MK couldn’t say what was causing it, in the end they reflashed the FW onto the ECU, but the problem never truely went away, but you give up after a while as it’s tiring dealing with them when they have no idea.

Oldham Audi replaced steering rack then took 3 attempts to get the alignment correct on the 2nd attempt the tech even admitted he struggled with it lol, worrying when you hear them say that.

My sons a Vehicle Technician.. he's worked at BMW, Arnold Clark to name a few. Stoke Audi were after him but turned it down. After speaking to him and hearing some of the stories he's told me about the way how the techs behave, it doesn't surprise me at all that you encounter these issues at main dealerships. He's left due to various issues surrounding both attitudes and a blasé attitude towards fixing things.
You think that because of the lush surrounding and that because you're walking into a dealership that you're in good hands. I've been there, falling into a safe sense of security, but this is simply not the case. The quality of work is only as good as the technicians and the standards they hold themselves personally to. But if they don't give a crap, then the quality of work is only as good as the supervisor or any quality control assessor that oversees them... But, even they can have a similar attitude which then equates to poor work standards.

I think its pot luck as to who happens to be working there at the time.
