Hi, Received my A3 sportback edition 1.

Can anyone tell me how I can set the car to lock automatically if I forget to lock the car whilst walking away?

I couldn’t see it under the car - settings - central locking menu?

Thanks

There's no such function.
Thanks for the help.

My old A3 2011 had this function so strange why they would remove this.

It also states in the paper manual that this should be a function - under ‘automatic locking function?

It say the car will be automatically locked if you don’t open the doors or boot for a short period of time?

Thanks

That’s correct. If you unlock the car but then don’t open any doors or the boot then it will automatically relock. However, if you do open something, then that feature will not automatically lock the car afterwards.

Ok thanks, that makes sense however my old A3 sportback 2011 locked itself if unattended for 5mins so I am surprised they got rid of this function with newer models?

Maybe it's because there's so much more variety in locking options for the new cars. I've had a 2008 A3 SB and it didn't have that kind of auto locking either. It was a pre-facelift model though, maybe they added it in the facelift.

Btw. Is the lock/unlock function in myAudi app available nowadays for all the 8Y's, or only for those with either parking heater or comfort access? My previous car just showed in the app if it was locked or not but you couldn't do anything to it, and that was annoying as hell. The current one has the lock/unlock via the app but now I got the parking heater which I didn't have in the old car. The heater is also remotely controllable via the app, so I don't know if it brings the locking functions along, or has Audi made it available for all the newer cars.

I know you can opt for the Advance Wireless Key which would lock the car automatically on walk away however I only have the basic key.

Very strange that Audi would only have the safety locking function if you accidentally press the unlock button and not if you forget to lock the car when you walk away.

It would seem to me from a safety view there would be way more chance in forgetting to lock the car when you walk away than if you accidentally press the unlock button.

Very strange logic.

None of my Audi's have ever had that function - It would be a safety issue as if someone was still in the car and it deadlocked they wouldn't be able to get out this includes keyless entry

Only one is when you drive off the doors lock and as Adam said if you unlock but don't open door or boot it relocks itself

If someone was locked in the car, they would press the unlock button in the car then they can get out? is that not right.

Not if it's been locked by the key and therefore deadlocked - I don't think that button will work as thieves would just break a window lean in and unlock the doors

Never tried it though to be honest

Thought if you locked someone in, and the interior alarm is not disabled, person moves, the car alarm goes off. (Not sure if you can still press unlock on the drivers door though) to get out. I know as my dashcam fell off the suction cup, and it set off the alarm twice. I only really check if car is locked when walking away if I see the mirrors are folded.

Exactly, it's a strange logic. It would be correct to make automatic locking after 5 minutes of any inactivity. That would increase security.

Actually I'm not getting it. How about such a basic situation you go grab some snack while your partner waits in the car, and if it takes you longer than 5 minutes the car auto locks while there's a person inside? The locking can only be opened from the key or the phone app, so there she stays...

Or is the car using the seat sensor to find out there's a person inside? I thought those are on only when the ignition is on.
