Hi All

Haven't posted for a while, the car has been running well now even at 400k miles.

I've had a turbo 'whistling' sound for a while but that seems to have gone away with the appearance of a significant oil leak.

Today I finally got around to jacking the car up and diagnosing the leak. It is coming from the bottom of the oil feed line to the turbo. When I say it is flowing I mean it is leaving a trail of oil along the ground as I drive. I have to top up with oil every 10-15 miles! Needless to say I haven't really been using it, just for very short trips.

I tried tightening the bolt on it but it made no difference. As far as I can tell, there is a very small crack in it just before the bolt.

It looks straight-forward to replace - there is the 17mm bolt underneath, and then what looks like a 12 or 13mm long nut on the top of the turbo. But the question is will it come out if these are loosened?
Would I need to drain the oil completely first? (because it seems to stop flowing when the engine is off ( even when hot)).

Anyone done it before? Would really appreciate some advice.

Not sure if it's in my sig, but it's a 2012 8P Sportback 2.0TDI rocket ship :)

You won't need to drain the oil, it's only supplied to the turbo when the pump's running
Can't advise much on removal / fitment except that the nut on the engine side is a pain to get to.
Might want to upgrade to a braided line (Darkside do one) for ease of maintenance on the turbo.

Just want to add a photo of it for anyone interested in the future. Not sure how to add a video. Can just see the black drip of the oil on the arm of the oil feed there, above the sump.

Yep I saw that braided hose. I'm wondering if I could potentially hacksaw the other one out once I have it loose, then just attack the braided one.

Whereabouts is the nut on the engine side do you know? There are just two I think, from looking at the part, unless there are clips holding it in place also.

Hm looking at your photo you've got a different engine to mine (CBAB) so I can't offer any relevant advice, sorry

I reckon the braided hose is the way to go! Might also prevent any recurring pipe cracks due to vibration down the pipe as is fixed.. I noticed a few other posts saying the problem seemed to come back for them. So the flexible pipe hopefully will do the trick! Maybe I can get another 400k miles out of her :Grey B7::racer::yahoo:

All done. Got a braided hose which worked a trick. The existing turbo line side had a union adapter (M10x1.0) on it which needs opening with an alan key (a total bitch). Then hacksaw off the old line, make space and get the new one on. Tricky but can be done.
