Haven't posted for a while, the car has been running well now even at 400k miles.
I've had a turbo 'whistling' sound for a while but that seems to have gone away with the appearance of a significant oil leak.
Today I finally got around to jacking the car up and diagnosing the leak. It is coming from the bottom of the oil feed line to the turbo. When I say it is flowing I mean it is leaving a trail of oil along the ground as I drive. I have to top up with oil every 10-15 miles! Needless to say I haven't really been using it, just for very short trips.
I tried tightening the bolt on it but it made no difference. As far as I can tell, there is a very small crack in it just before the bolt.
It looks straight-forward to replace - there is the 17mm bolt underneath, and then what looks like a 12 or 13mm long nut on the top of the turbo. But the question is will it come out if these are loosened?
Would I need to drain the oil completely first? (because it seems to stop flowing when the engine is off ( even when hot)).
Anyone done it before? Would really appreciate some advice.
