    F1 Season 2009

Having not missed a race on 20 years I think Hamilton must be the most dislikable Driver out there. His success is down to his golden spoon from Uncle Ron Dennis; he's shows a complete lack of respect for other drivers, such as calling them Monkeys at the back. He's a well engineered Mclaren...

    Thanks Audi

I didn't have a G clamp so got the tool for about £7. Takes 20 seconds...

    should I buy this

Full features are really good. I got a cable from ebay for £95, fully registered. I can run live diagnostics, changed adaptions and coding and run output tests. The savings from not having to have a dealer or someone else check it pays for itself, plus it's fun.

    Vag Com

To me the full kit is well worth it. Being able to run road test and record data to graph is excellent value. Fault codes are only half the battle.

    water temp question

Have you checked the temp in vagcom? I've read on many forums that the temp gauges often stick at 90 even when the temps vary. I've seen 90c read on a car when the temp has been from 78-88c. Diesels do fluctuate and don't run as hot. I tested mine with a new thermostat. It made no...

    temperature gauge

If your'e out of warrenty the odds are it will be a dry joint in the back of the gauge. The temp and fuel gauge are easy to remove and check. I did mind and it fixed it. Slopppy soldering by Bosch!!!

    Temperature sender sensor

It's a the back of the engine. Look for it from the drivers side right behind the block. You can see a connector with four leads coming from it. I did mine. Access is ok with some fiddling. No much coolant is lost but will require top up. JUst be careful with the plastic retaining clip...

    Extended Warranty

I couldn't justify the money on "what if". Most things (fortunately) I can undertake myself so don't see the need to cover it in case. I'd rather run the risk and dib into savings should I need to have a major fix. Now I've written this something will go bang!! :)

    Extended Warranty

IMO waste of money. Most things that will go on your car will not be covered by warranty. I wouldn't even give it a thought. Just my opinion though.

Does it really need new caliper bolts?

From memory I think it is 21mm I had the same prob! 22 seemed ok but 21 fit like a glove. I had to buy one. You'll be fine with the same bolts.

About to top up your oil? STOP!! Read this first.

Agree 100%. If you've taken time to consider an Audi you will have parted with £1000s of pounds of money.. why try and eek out a few quid by skimping on the one thing that will keeps the cars value at a premium.. I'm not suggesting it must have an Audi stamp either. If you don't like paying...

Temp Guage probs? Dash insert stuffed?

OK it's fixed. I ended up finding another dash insert from a breaker. A very good breakers in Lancashire. £40 for the whole unit inc DIS. The unit was a little scratched so for now I just took the temp gauge out and placed into by dash insert. Jobs a good one. The gauge is not analogue...

I'm with you on this. Mines a TDi and change every 5k or 6 months without fail. I user Millers xfe-pd hi-synthetic oil. Perfect for the PD diesel.

Temp Guage probs? Dash insert stuffed?

I suspect S-lines Stu's could have been the temp sender. That's as far, I believe Audi will go at fixing the temp gauge. The sender makes them behave very erratic. I replaced my sender sometime ago to no avail. £20 and 20 mins of my time. Anyway, gauge all back together and not a peep...

Temp Guage probs? Dash insert stuffed?

currently got my dash insert and temp gauge out. There were several dry joints on the back. I've also taken the back off where the magnetic coils and cogs are. Assembled but not checked yet and too dark to carry on. Will update if I managed to fix. Could save folks a packet if it's only the...

Best Discs and Pads for 1.8T?

Well I got EBC greenstuff discs and pads last year and they have been far superior to standard. I was lacking bite and decided after good reviews to get them. Now all I here is bad reviews. I would have them again as from cold they are superb. I find them great when warm also. I don't...

    Dunlop vs Mother Nature

I understand this is an old thread but I can't accept that they are the worst tyre. Dunlops must be the worsed! I've had numerous Pirelli's and found them to be superb. I had Michelins prior and wouldn't by those over priced tyres again! The Rossos are used by Porche and Ferrari so I can't...
