Drove it today. Thank god finally no more smoke from exhaust or under bonnet. First few answers were correct, turbo issue, Let's just hope there is no underlying problems that actually made the turbo leak. Mpgs were on average about 60 so all should be good. (Pcv valve and air filter were clear...
Drove car today, after repaired turbo installed, still smoking from exhaust (expected as some leaked oil inside exhaust needs to be burnt off) but what is concerning is smoke from under the bonnet. Same place as in the pictures above. Going to drive it today to see if smoke settles.
Unfortunately i won't be with the mechanic till tomorrow. I will ask him then. But asking the turbo specialist, he said too much engine oil can cause higher oil pressure. Checking online quite a bit people do say higher oil level can cause turbo to leake. But to be safe what should I be looking...
Yep no play in turbo, mechanic says turbo is as strong as it can be at 80,000, no play on ends. Just seals leaking from too much engine oil. Plus repairing my own turbo is going to give me 24 months warranty.
Found turbo seals leaking oil. Is that the culprit? Can they leak because of the Nob who did my service? (Put in too much engine oil) Now I can buy a new turbo or should I get my reconditioned from a company in Leeds who offer a 12 month warranty.
Current guy has scanned it, replaced glow plugs and now wants to work on next solution on Monday such as dpf EGR etc. I live in the Bradford area if there is anyone you could recommend?
EDIT; if it makes any difference the error code was P161A
Privately(unfortunately). The dpf may not be regenerating properly due to some seals that are loose so I'd rather the machanic takes car apart and looks at headgasket, turbo seals etc before doing a regen
Sorry not full tank. Have never tanked it before. £40 from near reserves was giving 360 miles. Is that still bad?
Plus I live I've a really hilly area. Nearly Every road had a steep uphill or downhill
Fuel economy for a full tank on the 1.9 TDI I'm not sure but on a full tank the car was showing as able to travel 330 miles. I would presume that is normal?
Still giving out white smoke after Change of glow plugs. Mechanic wants to regen dpf. Is that a good next step? What would you guys recommend as a next step?
Drove it today to the garage, smoke was increasing from exhaust the more I drove it. Burning type smell, hoping it's not a head gasket issue, will report back tomorrow on how hard my wallet will be hit.
Generally I would walk away but it's a highly rated garage on many different sites and I've had work done before which was done as expected. I think I may just have misheard him. He will report back tomorrow, hoping there's just a mouse smoking cigarettes in the exhaust(!)
Just gave it in. Mechanic said because there are no warning lights on dash unlikely to give an error code but he will scan it if he can't find any issues with the car. Does that even make sense? You don't need warning lights on dash to get an error code right?
