A3 2.0 tdi starter motor replacement

I realize this was just over 10 years ago... but I was wondering if you recall in the replacing of your starter motor, that all you had to do was access it from the top of the engine bay and no jacking up and removal of the bottom engine cover was necessary. Thanks!

A3 8P owners -- when was your first starter motor replacement?

I'm the original owner of my 2007 A3 8P and I'm a few thousand miles away from the 100k milestone. I've started to encounter flaking starting situations. The last car I had for a very long time (13 years, over 170k miles) required a new starter motor at about the 10 year mark, around 150k miles...

What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

You lucked out, Dave. I'm approaching 99k miles now and this summer I started to hear a slight droning noise coming from the rear. In time it started to progress a bit louder and then some test driving on curves started to reveal that the culprit was the right rear. A little louder on taking...

Recent bought 2012 A3 Sportback 2.0 TFSI S-Line with Premium Plus and S-Tronic

Great find! Hope it has a reasonable amount of mileage on it. My 2007 A3 S-line is still with me, from brand new. Yeah, I like the A3 that much. 17 years this summer. I went with a Kenwood head unit that has Android auto built-in. It works OK. But I've found that I much prefer to use my phone...

    A3/S3 Photos Thread

Boss looking car. Gorgeous. I wish the 8P S3 had been available in the USA. We have the S3 and RS3 now, but 4-door saloon. No sport back. Yours looks like a blast to drive, a smile on your face every time you punch it. Of course where I'm located, USA (NY area), there's not much to be done...

Q: Anyone experience spontaneous alarm system failure on their A3 8P?

For what it's worth, just for your reference, it didn't turn out to be any fault logged in VAG COM. No module faults. It appears one of the door locks may have been sticking. See above.

Q: Anyone experience spontaneous alarm system failure on their A3 8P?

OK, a follow-up... just in case someone else comes across this issue. No VAG COM problem. No logs to show any errors. Well, finally I figured out why this was happening. The left rear door! Despite hearing the mechanism click, the door was actually not locking. I could open it from the...

What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

Well, I'm not quite sure what to say for what I did... because it's a bit of a mystery. I was having this real headache of a problem with my alarm system. (Audi A3 8P 2007, USA spec). Once in a while I'd click the fob to lock and while the mechanical lock sound could be heard on all doors, the...

Stunning! Wow. I'm floored. I also really like your seats. They aren't Audi OEM, are they?

DIY: Rear Open Sky Sun Shade Latch Repair

My gluing solution ultimately failed again. I was tired of doing this every 6 to 12 months, so I just bought the sunshade arm assembly. Given how long it took for the original one to fail, I'm pretty certain I won't be the owner for the next time it fails. Yes, it's pricey... I think I paid $120...

    Backseat arm rest latch/clip replacement

Well, low and behold... 16 years on... and mine finally broke. The rear seat armrest clip. No stress, really. It's just bad plastic that doesn't age well. The magnet solution I used for the front is still working great. I put it in about 4+ years ago. For the rear, that clip piece needs to be in...

What car did you get to replace your A3 8P?

Thanks. The 2010 was a good year for the 8P. The 2007 year appears to be mixed on reliability, but I've had phenomenal reliability with mine. The car has 98k miles now. Never had any major problems. Just a few recalls here and there, tires replaced 3 times, and the air conditioning compressor...

What car did you get to replace your A3 8P?

I've loved my A3 8P. It has been so much the car I'd long wanted and despite a few minor inconveniences (like door opening a bit low for someone 6' tall) and gas mileage that's rather lackluster for a car this size. I don't drive for commuting to work these days, so it has kept a lot of mileage...

Q: Anyone experience spontaneous alarm system failure on their A3 8P?

OK, so I took some time to experiment a bit. I massaged the wire harness loom covered by the rubber accordion cover, to see if it might affect it. Didn't do anything. The behavior continues to be sporadic. It'll be fine for a couple of days, then one day -- no audible beep. Alarm not armed...

Q: Anyone experience spontaneous alarm system failure on their A3 8P?

Still running my Audi A3 8P (2007), bought new in 2007. Never had a single car for 16 years straight. The car has been phenomenally reliable and still very fun to drive. So lately, something weird is happening with my alarm system. Sometimes it will just not arm. I use the fob and click LOCK...

    Audi A3 8P w/FSI 2.0 engine, annoyingly noisy idle

I'm the original owner of my 2007 A3 with 2.0 FSI engine (stock, no special tuning or mods). 90k miles, with timing belt done at 80k. No oil leaks. Compression is excellent and torque response still makes me smile. Oil consumption is a little higher than it was when new, but nothing out of the...

How To - Facelift Chome Climate Control Module Switches

Good to hear it was indeed those pesky burrs that were keeping you from smooth knob function. :thumbs up: I've been using my modded CC unit for 8 months now, no issues. Great you were able to refit those pre-FL knobs... although, not something you could really sell--a replacement would be sought...

How To - Facelift Chome Climate Control Module Switches

Congrats on doing your mod. Yeah, some shops won't even try this, because it's too "non-standard." After looking over @Ash187's instructions a few times, I decided it was doable. Not using a Dremel... that's tough! And I'll bet the problem you're having about the lack of click is because of...

How To - Facelift Chome Climate Control Module Switches

The overall appearance of both the facelift and pre-facelift climate control units is very close. There's only a minor change with how the AUTO and ECON function buttons are positioned and some very subtle raised panel contours that are well hidden from a distance. To me, doesn't make sense to...

What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

Ouch, that is a good bit higher than in US market. There's different configurations at different prices. I'm not boosting / tuning my car at this point (13 years owned) as it's just not worth it, but I'd really like this kind of display for separate info feed from the stock computer (e.g. info...
