just to report back, new hub and bearing has cleared my issue. no more vibrations and noise.

I'm gonna have a little ritual tomorrow and urinate and take a dump on this old knuckle and suspension components. it was a proper a$$ to get it off and in the end was just easier removing the whole thing from the auto side than disconnect everything knuckle side. :laugh:;)

for me it was the vernet thermostat as illustrated above. i;'ve been reading that 'it's normal for the car not to reach the 90 degrees' in quite a few places, but didn't believe this (i also have a A6 which heats up to 90 wihtin 5 minutes)... if the car doesn't run at 90, you will have problems...

ps: Whilst I had the throttle body/intake manifold off (not sure if this is the proper name for it) I took the opportunity to clean up the built up carbon gunk which had settled inside the unit.
