    Dreaded dpf warning light

Looks reasonable I think. Oil ash residue is the amount of ash that gradually builds up in the DPF over its life. Each time a regen occurs and soot is burnt off, a tiny bit of ash remains, and it gradually builds up (if you're familiar with open fires or woodburning stoves, you'll know that...

Is there something wrong with this tyre setup?

I run 255/45/19 Michelin Pilot Sports on my 2016 Allroad during summer, they are on Allroad OE 8.5j 19" rims ( 4G9 601 025 H ) - not 100% sure on offset but think it's 43mm. Pretty sure it's one of the "approved" wheel/tyre size combos and listed on the tyre pressure label or manual. In terms...

    Dreaded dpf warning light

On my previous car, with a VAG CR170 engine, I used to run the free Android app "VAG DPF" on my phone in a dash holder, connected to the car with a cheap bluetooth OBD dongle. I found it really helped understand typical DPF behaviour - e.g. how quickly the DPF soot loading increased, and under...

A6 Avant vs A4 Avant for family of 4?

Same here...2 adults, 2 kids, boot full, stuff in rear footwells, roofbox plus 1 bike on roof, 3 bikes on towbar carrier....with hindsight a combi van might have been a better option. To be fair we don't really need to take things like a camping fridge etc, but we do, because we can. We...

A6 Avant vs A4 Avant for family of 4?

Ours is a MY16 SE L Executive 4x4 TDI 150 Estate, which was a generous spec to start with (eg satnav, radar sensor/cruise etc, fancy multi-segment HID lights), plus we specced the following options (some of these may have been in standard spec, I can't remember now): Crew Protection Assist &...

A6 Avant vs A4 Avant for family of 4?

Alternative suggestion....maybe frowned upon on an Audi forum, but I currently own both of these cars and use them for similar family duties so can offer an informed opinion....have you considered the Skoda Superb? We have a current generation 4x4 Superb estate, and a C7 Allroad. Despite both...

    Couple of Allroad questions

One other difference the BiTdi has, is the gearbox type, they have the 8-speed ZF automatic box ("Tiptronic") as opposed to the dual-clutch DSG-type boxes ("S Tronic") fitted to the lower power models. Audi don't schedule oil changes in these, but apparently the manufacturers (ZF) do, around 60k...

    Couple of Allroad questions

I guess some non-Sport models might have had the LED headlights specced as an option ? Mine non-Sport was specced with the fancy seats too. So it could be worth looking at both Sport/non-Sport and weighing up the actual options they've got. Time to learn how to spot the options based on photos...

    Couple of Allroad questions

My non-Sport Allroad BiTdi had the stock 18" wheels. I've kept these with winter tyres on for winter use, but now run 19" wheels most of the time. With 19"s on it still feels perfectly fine to me, the air suspension will make a huge difference over your Cayenne I'm sure. Most of my life is spent...

    Couple of Allroad questions

On the subject of fuel consumption for a BiTdi Allroad. Assume you'll average low 30's MPG. Yes you might be able to coax higher figures out if you're cruising gently (I did once manage 50mpg with everything in ECO and cruising at the legal limit on the motorway, with some sections of 50mph...

    Couple of Allroad questions

I have a 2016/66 Allroad BiTdi (non-Sport). It has the HID headlights. TBH I was a little disappointed with them, both in terms of light output and the fact that on such an expensive car they are just fixed (ie non-swivel). The HID headlights on the Yeti I had before were better. Note that on...

    EBC brakes

I'll also say I've used grooved discs in the past but not found them to make any actual difference (other than droning noise when they get seriously hot) and have gone back to using good quality standard discs. IMO grooved/drilled may look good but it's the pads that make the real difference...

    EBC brakes

I've used EBC Yellows on my previous car and on the Allroad. Work perfectly from cold, significant braking improvement all round, no noise, and despite trying I've not managed to fade them. I believe the only downside is they do create a bit more dust than the reds.

Audi extended warranty - worth it or not?

I took out the Audi extended warranty on my BiTdi Allroad (was 3yrs old, FSH, 40k miles at the time). It was actually cheaper than the aftermarket warranties once you configured equivalent cover. I did wonder whether it was worthwhile but each time I look under the bonnet at the sheer complexity...

    Bitdi stage 1 remap

I was fortunate, it happened at startup and I switched off straight away. Luckily all that happened was the pulley outer fell forward slightly, the belt is still intact and wrapped around all pulleys. AA chap said he'd seen it a number of times (and not just on VAG cars either).

    Rough idle

Mine does it occasionally at startup. Maybe once a week or so. Idles really lumpy for a few seconds, then clears up and drives fine. Asked around about this before and it seemed it wasn't uncommon. Don't think there's any problem with my injector seals, no smells or any gunk leaking out.

    Bitdi stage 1 remap

Mine failed about 3 weeks ago and had to be recovered, currently still sat in a dealership waiting on parts. BiTDI, 57k miles. Not sure there's anything you can check though - they're either OK or they break and fall off! I don't think tuning will affect it though, you're not changing the...

    Best tyre?

If you want plenty of objective test results, head to: https://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ On the RHS of that page you'll see plenty of 202o "Summer Tyre Tests" - have a look through these and you should be able to get a feeling for the better performing tyres, and see which ones are reasonably priced.

    Bike Rack recommendations please

Wingbars & ProRide 598 for me too. Haven't transferred them to the Audi yet, but use them on my wife's Superb and also my last car. They've stood up perfectly to high speeds and also bouncing down some dead bumpy tracks. On my last car I just left them on all the time. Barely noticed any...
