When you say "sliding down" do you mean the whole armrest is dropping? The armrest is height adjustable, if you put the handbrake down, that will allow the armrest to drop to it's lowest setting and reset the ratchet, then (if it's working correctly) will stay at whatever height you bring it to...

If you're parked on level ground with no load in the car then the spacing should be even on all wheels, I think there are little white marks on the springs that can help you identify them but I can remember which ones are what.

Looks a bit high to me unless they've just been changed as they take a few weeks to settle down.

Neodymium magnets have worked a treat for me, for a couple of quid on ebay I bought round ones 5mm in diameter and 1.5mm thick, fixed 2 pairs in position with araldite. I'll upload a pic shortly.

Ah so it looks like I do have it, although it says "Applies to vehicles with direct shift gearbox AND 6-cylinder engine", does that mean it's a no for my 4-cylinder engine then?
