I do agree with your sentiment! But in this case, my car is already 11 years old and whether it's on the road with a working window regulator in another 10 years is no concern of mine. It's an hours work, which I enjoy doing, on a non-critical part. If we were talking a full set of front...
Just had another look at their listing and it does say that the warranty is only honoured if fitted by a mechanic so my error there for not reading the small print. Not sure how many mechanics use eBay as their parts supplier though!
I plan to have the car 3 years so one regulator a year at £60...
Interesting. What failed on the regulators? Why didn't you get your money back? They make a big point of the warranty so surely eBay wouldn't be too happy with them not honouring their listing.
Recently replaced mine with this one from eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171493859933?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Didn't compare lengths but I assume it matched the old one. It's been working fine for two months now and at 20 quid with a 2 year warranty, a no-brainer...
My drivers side mount was in exactly the same, fluid-less, sunken condition but it had the heat shield fitted so didn't know that until I had removed it. Was always going to change both at the same time as it seemed the most sensible thing to do.
I levered from the top of the engine bay, using...
A job I have recently done myself and yes, it's doable on the driveway and yes, drivers side is tricky.
My symptoms since purchasing the car were a big 'jump' (how to describe it better???) when going on/off accelerator heavily...the linked video better illustrates the problem, especially...
There are companies out there that will 're-manufacture' your oil pump parts if you send them. As yours is one of the first B7s these were most prone to failure. Something to do with a plastic tensioner breaking and causing a slack chain to adversely wear the oil pump balancer shaft iirc. There...
First, clear the faults then do another scan and see which faults come back. For codes that come back, follow the advice on the RossTech Wiki
01259 - fuel pump wiring/relay fault
00532 - suggests your battery could be on it's last legs
01286 & 00778 - steering angle sensor possibly needs...
Recently had a similar problem with my drivers window. Sprayed some electrical contact cleaner (WD40 or such-like) in the switch, gave it a good wiggle for a few minutes and, hey presto, sorted. Got to be worth a try before ripping the door card off
The leads with the chips inside are official Ross Tech leads. As you have a copy lead, Ross Tech allow you to use VCDS Lite for "testing purposes" and offer no support. As your lead appears to work you can register VCDS Lite for approx £70 and this will give you Auto Scan, Coding & Adaptation...
I honestly don't know as Vag Com is before my time so I don't know of the differences. Someone else may be able to answer though. All the recoding guides out there or based on VCDS. Contacting Ross Tech is probably your best bet.
I think i used 8mm tubing that I got from ebay along with some metal pipe connectors. Be aware that normal silicon tubing goes very soft with the hot fuel so I recommend getting high temp tubing. Also, because you're potentially dislodging crap in the engine, I'd recommend doing an oil, oil...
