A little controversial? Better without remap

We all like different things. It's possible I just don't like the cookie cutter map that I had on my car. I much prefer how it's driving with it removed. My next car (if possible) will be back to normally aspirated and definitely a manual. I miss changing gear but that's entirely another...

A little controversial? Better without remap

100% spot on and my thoughts too. Unfortunately a simple one size fits all serial port remap doesn't give you the option of the engine characteristics you personally like. I also think a DSG/gearbox map would be preferable. I bought a petrol turbo car and don't want it to drive like a TDi. For...

A little controversial? Better without remap

I'm maybe a little biased in that I prefer the characteristics of a zingy naturally aspirated engine. The 3.4 flat 6 in my old Boxster S was a lovely thing to stretch out. The 5 cylinder is a class above the S3/generic 4 pots I've had in that it does like to rev and will happily head butt the...

A little controversial? Better without remap

I intentionally didn't mention the map as a) I didn't want it to detract from the post and b) I didn't want the thread to go down the 'insert companies' map is bad. All I would say is that there are hundreds of mapped RS3's with the same standard serial port map I had on from a proven...

A little controversial? Better without remap

Just in case this may help those who are in 2 minds about applying a remap to a PFL car. I'm a serial car changer, one day I'd love to find a car I get emotionally attached to and think of as mine but so far this has not happened. Given I'm now 48, I'm not sure it ever will. I get bored fairly...

    Standard seats vs sports seats...

I don't have them, doesn't bother me at all - you can't see them when you're sitting in them. They look nicer visually but both the standard and SS seats are pretty crap if you want to do track days or are looking for mid corner support. I'd have had alcantara seats if I was given the choice :D

    Aberdeen Audi RS3’s

All I was interested in when I bought my RS3 was the sports exhaust and the mag ride. Anything else was either a bonus or an annoyance. For example I didn't want a pan roof or comfort access. Just as well we all like different things really .. or we'd all be driving around in beige nissan...

    Aberdeen Audi RS3’s

That's cool. I always laugh at poverty spec, I mean it has the digital dash, heated seats, sat. nav, decent lights and that 2.5 5 cylinder engine under the bonnet. What else do you need? I was happy in my old Scooby STi and it had none of the above :D

    Aberdeen Audi RS3’s

I've also bought a number of cars from Aberdeen Audi, they've always been pretty decent with me. They always sell a lot of RS cars, a lot of people like them for the snowy weather up here and there's still a fair bit of oil money floating around (if you still have a job that is). I think they...

New owner of 65 Plate RS3 Sportback

Pretty poor with a new owner that no one replies. There's no water temp gauge, you can have an oil temp is the DIS but you'll need to enable it with an OBD app like Carista. It may be hidden in some sub menus. I cant't see any issues with running 235-35R19 all round. Probably better in the...

    Boost fluctuation?

I had a watch, I'm pretty sure it's now clutch slip. I had thought in manual mode, from low revs with a big throttle input would see the revs rise (and no acceleration - as that's my usual clutch slip test) but this feels more like small slip, clamp, small slip, clamp, sort of every 1/2 second...

    Boost fluctuation?

The description of minimal input cruising to say 60% throttle, with the box changing down (either in auto or with paddles) is exactly the conditions in which the pulsing occurs. A bit of clutch slip then, I may investigate a TCU/DSG map ..

    Boost fluctuation?

I had thought about that. I've used manual mode, stuck it in 4th/5th/6th and from low revs given it full throttle - watched the (crappy) boost gauge as I thought that would probably be when full boost would be asked for. I didn't think about peak torque mind you. The slight shudder on...

    Boost fluctuation?

I appear to have an intermittent issue with some boost fluctuation. I have tried to make it pretty repeatable (failed) but I would say if I'm sitting around 60/65 in 7th, give it a little bit of right foot so it drops down to 5th/6th and hits @3,200 revs I'm feeling a bit of boost fluctuation...

    About to pull trigger opinions

I have a pre-FL. Stick it in dynamic, give it some beans and change down early using the paddles and it's a right noisy MF. Love it. I'm 48 this year and don't care that I am acting like a small child. I've a valve controller too so I can have the flaps open in every gear :D However all I...

    About to pull trigger opinions

Ah, so I'm not the only one. Cold start is almost embarrassing (even warm start is too noisy) and then the first few feet in 1st feels like the clutch is slipping, lots of noise - not much motion. To answer your question - I have Revo stage one and the car still exhibits the same behaviour :(

Wanting to trade up from S3

I'm not sure I could get my head around spending £600 a month on a car unless the intention was to buy it outright and then keep it. Something that wouldn't hopefully depreciate too much (like 911 997.2 Porsche, or AM v8). Just to give you an example - I put down @£4k and pay @£400 a month for...

Facelift How does one sell an RS3 to a non dealer?

There are a number of companies who'll take the RS3 off your hands, without taking out another deal. Automotive addiction, Autocentre inverurie to name 2. Just send them details and I'm sure they'll give you a price. It's up to you whether that price is acceptable or not. I traded a Mustang...

Facelift How does one sell an RS3 to a non dealer?

Absolutely. If to a dealer, they would clear the finance and transfer you 4K. Private sale would be they transfer the cash into your account, you clear the finance etc. A word of caution to both parties would be to make 100% sure the finance is cleared before handing over v5's etc. Private...

Wanting to trade up from S3

Sounds about right to me. If you know the GFV and the APR there are a few online PCP calculators that you can check figures with. I'm pretty sure the dealer will have very little control over the APR or the GFV (they'll be set by Audi), and RS3's are always in demand so you can't do a BMW and...
