I thought I had the same problem in mine when away on holiday a while ago. Eventually I realised there was nothing wrong at all, I was simply hearing different road noise from unfamiliar surfaces. Like yours. the noise came and went, and for me that was down to the road surface changing.

I have a 2012 version (which I thought is 205hp) and usually get 52-54mpg on a very long run. Otherwise averages 45-47.

Thanks NHN. So what I have is presumably what you describe as the 'aux heater' behind the normal matrix. Odd though that it doesn't make itself known without using the air direction buttons. Still, nice to find an extra useful feature after 8 years of ownership!

Possibly fragments of chalk in the water? Doesn’t take much to block the very fine jets. I soak the jet units in de-scaler every few months, keeps them clear.
