Firstly look at how the tyre's are wearing and secondly how the handling feels.
If the tyres are wearing more towards the outer edges hopefully your tracking is ok but that means the pressure is too low so all the weight is on the shoulders and the tyre's will shuffle giving a woolly steering...
I had no lacquer peel anywhere on my 07 A6 lemans avant when I sold it this year.
Am I right in thinking a lot of A3/S3/RS3's over the last couple of years are suffering from the same as this especially on the rear bumpers.
The main reason that Audi computer says no is because most s-lines have a suspension drop over standard.
It's not that they don't physically don't fit its that they struggle to clear speed bumps, kerbs and may cause damage.
You need a dyno where the rollers front and rear are mechanically linked to fool the car it is on normal road otherwise there is a difference of resistance which the cars computers try to compensate for and basically wont run.

As both the diesel and the petrol (sorry) are oil burners id be more likely to go for a more powerful version because anything you drive will only give mpg figures similar to your driving style and conditions.
If you can manage a B8.5 most seem to have start stop and brake recuperation also...
