696 Monster - Nice bike but parts very expensive as is servicing, bit of an old thumper of an engine, I think you'd get bored of it when your mate opened up his triumph you'll be out ridden in every way...
Most 600's are a great bike to gain experience on and still very fast, depends if you want to go the sports bike route or naked. If you go naked you can't beat a Triumph Street Triple, if you fancy a Sports Bike, then any of the jap bikes are great and reliable.

If you look very closely, you can see my 2011 Repsol Fireblade at the back of the garage, I can just get the Audi S4 parked in the garage too with just inches to spare.
